Hi, I have installed the latest Spambayes but there isn't the facility in the Manager to empty junk mail. Can you please tell me how to do this quickly, without deleting each spam email into the deleted items and then emptying that. Web interface statistics

It seems the web interface will never tell me a word appears more than once, either as ham or spam. train-to-exhaustion questions

1. A recent training run went like this: round: 1, msgs: 690, ham misses: 61, spam misses: 210, 176.3s round: 2, msgs: 690, ham misses: 8, spam misses: 53, 165.6s round: 3, msgs: 690, ham misses: 1, spam misses: 7, 159.6s round: 4, msgs: 690, ham misses: 1, spam misses: 2, 159.6s round: 5, msgs: 690, ham misses: 0, spam misses: 1, 157.8s round: 6, msgs: 690, ham misses: 1, spam misses: 1, 160.9s round: 7, msgs: 690, ham misses: 0, spam misses: 1, 211.0s round: 8, msgs: 690, ham misses: 0, spam misses: 1, 172.6s round: 9, msgs: 690, ham misses: 0, spam misses: 1, 197.1s round: 10, msgs: 690, ham misses: 1, spam misses: 1, 174.6s It seems that the results got *worse* in rounds 6 and 10. Am I misinterpreting this? Are these expected results? 2. I have about 350 each of ham and spam that I can use to train on. I'm sure that some of these messages are mostly redundant and add little or nothing of value to the training data. I don't want to waste time on them every time I do a training run. Is there some way to use tte.py to reduce my training set to the messages that actually make a difference? In the SpamBayes dropdown menu you should find an item labeled "Show spam clues for current message". These clues are the most important information for determining why a message scored the way it did. Select one of the incorrect emails while it is still in possible spam, and *before training on it* choose the "Show spam clues" command. This will generate an email message that you can address to spambayes(a)python.org and submit for us to look at. Large attachments like images (or recorded messages) will usually be discarded, but if the message is still too big to send then you can delete the section labeled Message Stream before forwarding. If these emails always come from the same sender then you might also consider setting up an Outlook rule. SpamBayes doesn't support "whitelisting" (allowing all mails from a specific sender), but you can create a rule in Outlook to move all messages from this sender to a separate folder that is not processed by SpamBayes. In the default SpamBayes configuration, Outlook rules should be processed before SpamBayes analyses the message. If not, look for the "Advanced" tab in SpamBayes Manager and select "Enable background filtering". -- Kenny Pitt

Help in re-install

I've been using Spambayes for a couple of years without problem. However, I've recently had problems with my computer freezing and blue screening, dumping memory, etc. That seems to have been resolved but yesterday, Spambayes locked up. I couldn't access it from the toolbar at all. Couldn't get into it to turn it on or off and it wouldn't move/mark any messages when I clicked Delete as Spam. After trying everything I could I uninstalled it completely. Removed it from the Add-Remove Programs, deleted the Program Files folder and even deleted the toolbar. I rebooted the system and reinstalled Spambayes. Which says it's been reinstalled but there's still no toolbar there. How do I get it back up and working? I'm using Outlook 2003 (11.8118.8122) SP2 with Windows XP Pro, 512MB Ram, and 1.2Ghz AMD processor. I want my Spambayes back!!! Can someone help me? Michele

Junk E-mail disappearing

First I love you product. I am having the weirdest problem with spam bayes, The junk e-mail folder keeps disappearing, It happens everyday for the last couple of weeks. First I was running Win 2000, 600mhz outlook 2000, - exchange 2000 I thought buy replacing the machine it would go away, I have sinced replaced the machine with XP Pro SP2 all updates, outlook 2007 Spam bayes always works but the junk email folder keep disappearing, I have to re run the configuration and it comes back. Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped working

Help! Spambayes was working fine for 3 months on my Windows Vista / Outlook 2003 / x86 system. Recently, my screen went black while watching a video causing me to power on/power off to reboot. After restarting, when I launch Outlook I received "Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped working" when Spambayes tries to initialize. I can only get outlook to launch when the outlook_addin.dll is disabled. The crash details are app=outlook, module-unknown, offset=0639aa80, exception=c0000005, data: 00000008. Here is what I have tried to-date to fix this (no matter what I try, the crash still occurs)..and yes, I went through the entire troubleshooting guide!: 1) I Uninstalled/Reinstalled Spambayes 1.1a3 (8 times) 2) I Uninstalled/Reinstalled Spambayes 1.04 (3 times) 3) I Deleted all Spambayes configuration data 4) I tried reregistering the dll (registers succesfully but still outlook crashes on startup) 5) I rebooted multiple times, tried turning on/off user control in Vista and installing/uninstalling Note that the Spambayes installation log shows all is well during install. Also, there is 4 SpamBayes.log files in my data directory - all are empty, so whatever is crashing outlook with spambayes occurs before the first item is written to the log. I also tried Inboxer, and I receive the same hard crash after installing (with Spambayes uninstalled, of course). Cloudmark's product does install and integrate fine with Outlook, however, but I'm sure this uses a diff. technology. Thank you in advance for your help - Brian

Sending larger files

SpamBayes (version 1.0.4 now; 1.0.3 earlier) seems to work OK with my Outlook Express (ver.6) on my Windows XP Dell machine (1 GB memory). Small files (less than 1 MB) seem to transmit OK as well. Anytime I try to send a larger file(s) (especially greater than 1 MB) the program bogs down and "processes" the file(s) either very slowly or not at all. In the meantime, "sb_tray.exe" is consuming 98-99% of the CPU. File(s) greater than 2 MB essentially don't transmit -- i.e., the program just locks up. Any suggestions? -J.

Program doesn't work

I am using Windows XP version 5.1. I used to use Spambayes all the time and it was GREAT! Then it stopped working and everything I did failed to work. So I went to another program but then they wanted money to continue and decided to come back to Spambayes. I made sure everything from the old program was uninstalled then reinstalled the program with the 1.0.4 download from the website. Once installed the Addin did not show up in Outlook so I followed the trouble shooting guide, clicking the COM Add-Ins button. When I returned to outlook it loaded in the e-mail but the Folderlist on the left side would not load in and the hourglass just sat there so I could do nothing. Soon the entire program went blank and a "Program has stopped working" message appeared. Ultimately, after uninstalling and re-downloading and the same thing happened I am writing to you for HELP! The only way I can use Outlook was to uninstall Spambayes. So now I have no protection. Inasmuch as I used to use the program successfully I assume something has gone haywire in my system. Can you help me. I really want to filter out all this junk and return to a reasonably trouble free operation of Outlook. In anticipation, Dan Shaw

Vista and Outlook 2007 solution

I notice this question comes up frequently on the forum. Yes, SpamBayes will work with Outlook 2007 under Vista. However, you will need to modify the permissions that SpamBayes runs under. Either run Outlook 2007 as an admin or, better idea, give the Users group Modify\Write permissions to the \Program Files\SpamBayes folder.
