problem with localhost

I am having trouble getting my e-mails; I'm getting a message saying that localhost is not responding and is timing out after 60 seconds. Issue with Migration from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 - Spambayes stopped working for Outlook 2000 clients

Hi, We recently migrated from Microsoft Exchange 5.5 SP4 to Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2. Ever since we turned off our Exchange 5.5 server, last week, Spambayes 1.04 on our Microsoft Outlook 2000 clients (sp3) has for some clients stopped filtering emails and for some clients will filter emails after a few spam messages are selected as "Delete As Spam". It seems as though Spambayes is having issue with the change from Exchange 2003 from Exchange 5.5. What has changed in our configuration that maybe causing this? We've tried several different things to try and fix the issue with no success. We have done the following: Restarted the pc's Restared outlook Reinstalled Spambayes 1.04 Left messages in the Junk E-mail folder (to help with history) We've gone through SourceForge and we did not find a situation similar to ours. But none of the changes above have made any affect on the performance of Spambayes. Any suggestions or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks, Kamran

Clicking on suspected (by spambayes) spam or accepted (by spambayes) emails to convert them to definite spam does not work, they remain where they are I have reloaded spambayes with no change using latest version of spambayes and MSoutlook regards Pete Maybury

I am running the binary version. I recently installed Spambayes 1.0.4. I used a minimum of training - ~400 messages. When I click on a spam message in my in box, I get the following: "no filterable mail items are selected." Can you help me? Hello, I am needing some assistance from you if you can help. I recently had to reset my mailbox setting due to my wireless company upgrading or something. It seems to have affected my SpamBytes from working. After resetting my mailbox and getting all that done - I can click send/receive for all my emails and I get a bunch of messages marked Spam. I didn't know if I need to do something to SpayBytes since I reset my mailbox with my carrier. I can't even receive my normal emails all I get are msgs marked Spam. Can you help. I am currently operating Windows XP and my version of SpamBytes is SpamBytes OutlookAddin Binary Version 1.0.4(March 2005). Thank you, Annette

Hi all, I am new to spambayes. I have some trouble in understanding the system. can some one please help me out. I have trained the spambayes using few mails and and have gone through the code as to which function is calling which function and so on...What i found is that it calculates the wordinfoset(x,y). This training i have done using sb_filter.py Now when i use it for testing with the "-f" option. I get the mail as the result but no output is being given as to whether it is a spam mail or a ham mail. While i try to print the values from "probability" function present in classifier.py i get something like the below.This i think is the spam probability for a few clues. WordInfo(8, 0) 0.973372781065 WordInfo(2, 0) 0.908163265306 WordInfo(10, 0) 0.978468899522 WordInfo(6, 0) 0.96511627907 WordInfo(4, 0) 0.949438202247 Now from where do we get to know if the mail is spam or ham ??? Dear friends at Spambayes, I've used Spambayes for many years and love it. Now I'm having a problem. I go to Junk Suspects, highlight what I want to Recover From Spam, click on that button, and nothing happens. Same when I click on Delete As Spam. Same thing when I'm in my Inbox, highlight a message, and click on Delete As Spam. Other than that, Spambayes is working fine, sorting out Junk and Junk Suspects and otherwise working ok. What can I do to get those buttons to work? Hi I have tried on serveral occassions loading spambayes addin to outlook - it has been working perfectly for years and then for some unknown reason outlook (2003) closes and asks to be restarted - citing spambayes mananger as a problem (don't recall exact message). Have tried to reinstall after uninstalling serveral times. Cant seem to find a readme.txt file to indicate problems. Using windows xp professional Spambayes 1.0.4 ( have used beta as well) Can't seem to trace any logfiles - looked for passed 4/5 hours Please help Regards Baggy Tiwana

milter implementation of spambayes

Hello, Today I was reading about various antispam techniques, and I came across a reference to milter. Milter is a mail filter that runs at SMTP time, that's when the sending mailserver still has an open connection to the receiving mailserver, and the receiver has not yet acknowledged reception of the email. I'm wondering if it is possble to create a milter implementation of spambayes. Currently I'm so confident about spambayes that I move all spam with a score of 1.00 to /dev/null (with procmail). With a milter-based spambayes, I could reject the spam when I still have the spamming server on the line. Don't ask me why, but I have always thought that rejecting at SMTP is better than silently discarding email, which is still better than bouncing. I found a python implementation of milter with an empty base class as an example: http://code.google.com/p/ppymilter My problem is: I have zero experience with python so I really don't know where to start. My questions to the list: * Good idea or bad idea? And why? * If it's a good idea, could it be done by a humble python n00b like myself? I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty but it's not my intention to write the book on Mastering Python either. * Who can help me by sometimes throwing a cluebat in my general direction, when I get lost? -- Amedee
