Hello, Today I was reading about various antispam techniques, and I came across a reference to milter. Milter is a mail filter that runs at SMTP time, that's when the sending mailserver still has an open connection to the receiving mailserver, and the receiver has not yet acknowledged reception of the email. I'm wondering if it is possble to create a milter implementation of spambayes. Currently I'm so confident about spambayes that I move all spam with a score of 1.00 to /dev/null (with procmail). With a milter-based spambayes, I could reject the spam when I still have the spamming server on the line. Don't ask me why, but I have always thought that rejecting at SMTP is better than silently discarding email, which is still better than bouncing. I found a python implementation of milter with an empty base class as an example: http://code.google.com/p/ppymilter My problem is: I have zero experience with python so I really don't know where to start. My questions to the list: * Good idea or bad idea? And why? * If it's a good idea, could it be done by a humble python n00b like myself? I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty but it's not my intention to write the book on Mastering Python either. * Who can help me by sometimes throwing a cluebat in my general direction, when I get lost? -- Amedee

I'm not sure what happened, but my Spambayes used to automatically filter messages coming into my inbox, but now it makes me manually direct it to filter the messages. How do I instruct it to automatically filter incoming messages again? Thank you. John

Hello. Unfortunately have problem with spambayes on outlook startup. I have this error message every time I launch outlook And nothing helps me. I did all the steps I found in FAQ - nothing works. Also there is nothing in log files, they are empty. I use windows server 2003 if it may help ) Would you please help me and recommend anything to run it properly?! Nikita A. Kochergin

Hi, this may be the right place. I browsed the code. I think there should be a test for messages per timespan per user in the following place in the code. After 'prob, clues = self._scoremsg(msg, True)', and before if prob < ham_cutoff: elif prob > spam_cutoff: in 'hammie.py'. You could 'mark to postpone' any uncertain messages which, if the same sender sends something similarly doubtful in the next few minutes, bounces both. (c.l.py reader.) Thanks and sincerely.

I have just upgraded to a new PC (SBE2007) Now Spambayes wont load on my outlook? I clicked the download, can see the program file but when I open outlook, it does not appear? Please help, This program was very useful!

Disabling DEP

Here appears to be a way to disable DEP: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb736299(VS.85).aspx Could be useful for the Outlook plugin. Disable DEP for Outlook instead of the whole system. Won't work on XP, but it'll solve one headache that pops up around here frequently enough.
