Hi....within the last few days a daily email that I have been getting for years mysteriously is now automatically going into the junk email folder....as if I 'trained' the system to do that. Not sure what I may have done, but I did nothing conciously to do that. How does one tell the system NOT to Junk mail an item that now appears to be 'trained' for that file??? appreciate any assist. Spambayes on Windows 7

I have just tried out Spambayes 1.0.4 on Windows 7, Outlook 2003. It works fine. You just have to set it up in Pop3 mode and use 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost for the Outlook Pop server. The integrated Outlook mode didn't work, and Windows 7 doesn't recognize localhost.

Cannot delete a Junk Suspects1 folder from Outlook 2007

One of out users was recently upgraded from Outlook XP to Outlook 2007. Her operating system is still Windows XP. She was running Spambayes-1.Orc1 (May2004). That Spambayes came along with the upgrade but along with the normal folders of Junk E-mail and Junk Suspects it created a Junk Suspects1 folder with a red circle and slash through it which we can't delete. First why did it do that and how can we get rid of it? Any help would be appreciated. slow training and x-lookup-ip

Hi, I'm using the train-to-exhaustion script, and it seems to be taking a seriously long time to process some of the messages. It turns out that using -o Tokenizer:x-lookup_ip:True causes a serious hit to training speed. I do have Tokenizer:lookup_ip_cache set. Not only that, but it seems to go slowly even on the second and subsequent training passes, by which time I'd think the cache would be full. So I'm wondering if the cache is really working, or if it's size-limited so that it's blown by my large training set, or if there's some other issue. I notice that the cache—as integrated into SpamBayes—doesn't support selecting a timeout other than “10” nor does it support choosing the DNS server, even though the cache class itself allows that to be tuned. I don't have any good reason to think either of these are the problem. Any insight you can offer would be very much appreciated. Change to messageinfo DB handling?

For a long time I've been running my training with -o Storage:messageinfo_storage_file:/home/dave/spambayes/messageinfo.new.fs \ -o Storage:persistent_storage_file:/home/dave/spambayes/hammie.new.fs \ and then moving the yyy.new.xxx files to cover the old yyy.xxx files when finished. I just switched servers and updated my SpamBayes, and it looks like the move of the messageinfo_storage_file is failing because the source file can't be found. Is that expected, and if so, was I misguided in trying to persist the messageinfo_storage_file across training runs? HOtmail problem

Using Spambayes 1.1a4 on Windows XP with OE6. Long had problems with SSL for Spambayes (not least as wiki seems wrong - use SSL should be set to True, not automatic, as sbserver fails with error in log file if set to automatic). Finally seem to have got it to work for most email providers, but not for hotmail. SSL access to pop3.live.com on port 995 works fine if operating directly from OE6 on my system, but trying to go through spambayes (dedicated port - in my case 15112, server in OE localhost, not set to use SSL in OE, but use SSL true in spambayes config file) get time out, BUT after authorisation appears to proceed successfully - OE is either at stage of downloading list of messages, or has already downloaded one or two messages but then server appears unresponsive. Are there any plans to release a windows 7 compatible SpamBayes? I've installed the vista version but it does not work. I am not familiar with python so I can't try to figure it out. I've been on 7 for some months now, and I miss this more than I could have imagined. Rafael

Problems with classifying as spam

In addition to the startup problems, Spambayes is having problems marking messages as spam. As an example, I received this email: ------------------------------ Subject: ***Discount_Viagra_VXPL_Percocet*_Adderall**** Body: <URL Link>***Discount_Viagra_VXPL_Percocet*_Adderall****! <Links to:> http://kashertqdum17.com/ ------------------------------ That's it. The only text in the body of the message is that URL link. There are two issues I see showing up: 1. The subject and link text isn't being parsed properly. Nowhere in the spam clues are the words "viagra", "percocet", or "adderall" showing up. The spam token involving the subject is "'subject:****'" So, not only is SpamBayes not treating the underscores as word seperators, but it's not even getting to the words, because it looks like it's getting choked up on the asterisks. 2. I've got a *lot* of tokens showing up in the Spam Clues that are nowhere in the email itself. I'm guessing that Spambayes is actually going to that link and processing what's on the page, but if so, that's a big problem. First of all, it gives the spammers more flexibility in trying to bypass spambayes. And second, if it's following links, then it's confirming to the spammers that my email address is valid. That's a huge no-no. Spambayes should not be following links at all, but should only look in the message itself.
