If we can't find someone with the time and inclination to dig into problems running SpamBayes in a Win7 64-bit+Outlook 2010 environment pretty soon, I think it might be time to think about closing up shop. Other than the occasional, "Help! I deleted my Junk Suspects folder!" questions, the bulk of the problems reported here over the past year have related to the 64-bit Win7 environment. We really need to find some people who can help with this. If you have any ideas, please post them here. Thx, Skip

Please don't close up shop over Windows users. I am a very happy longtime Linux user! Too many people want "*clickety-click* yay! it works!" It really is not hard to use an old PC to setup a pop/imap server with procmail to get the real benefit of SpamBayes. http://www.hypexr.org/linux_mail_server.php If I were a Windows user and really wanted to use SpamBayes, I would take the time to just setup my own server and use SpamBayes as it was meant to be used. $0.02. Windows 7 Spambayes Database Problem

Configuration: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) Outlook 2010 SpamBayes 1.1a6 Starting from a clean system (no SpamBayes files or directories) and with Outlook not running, I install SpamBayes. It installs fine. I start Outlook, and get the SpamBayes add-on startup wizard (where it asks me about locations for good and bad messages, where to put questionable messages, etc.). SpamBayes initializes properly: I see it in the COM Add-ins list of Outlook, I see the SpamBayes toolbar, I can access the SpamBayes manager. I stop Outlook. I start Outlook. SpamBayes does not initialize. Instead I get a SpamBayes pop-up saying "There was an error initializing the SpamBayes addin. Please re-start Outlook and try again.". Restarting Outlook does not help - I get the same pop-up. Outlook still has SpamBayes listed as an active COM Add-in. There is no SpamBayes error or log file generated. Uninstalling and re-installing SpamBayes does not fix the problem. When I do this, the very first time I start Outlook, I get the SpamBayes pop-up. After some experimenting, I believe the problem is with the SpamBayes database files (default_bayes_database.db and default_message_database.db): 1. These files are not deleted when I uninstall SpamBayes. On installation, they are not overwritten, but remain unchanged. 2. If I stop Outlook and manually delete these two files, when I start Outlook, SpamBayes initializes fine (I get the SpamBayes add-on startup wizard). These files are located in "c:/users/<user id>/appdata/roaming/spambayes". I can't see any problems with these files or the directory: Everybody has read/write/modify/execute permissions on everything. Having accepted that I wouldn't be able to get spambayes to work with hotmail pop, I've been forced to revisit the stunnel possibility by the increasing realisation that Spamihilator was completely and utterly useless, and seemed to learn nothing in the year or so I had it working, and the fact that Spambayes stopped working with my Virgin email (rebranded gmail). For some reason, although it would get the list of messages fine, and (usually) download the first message fine, it would hang thereafter, although eventually, after a day or so, manage to download all the messages. But not usable, really. Problem is that I can't get stunnel to work, and it seems to be a spambayes problem, in that if I get outlook express to go direct through stunnel, everything goes fine, but put spambayes in the middle and it doesn't work. Configuration is outlook express->spambayes listening on port 15110 with mail server set to 127.0.0.1:16110->stunnel listening on port 16110 in client mode->pop.virgin.net:995. SSL not specified at any level (but inherent in use of stunnel). outlook express->stunnel listening on port 16110 in client mode->pop.virgin.net:995 works. The error message I'm getting from outlook express is bizarre - it says "The server responded with an error. Account: 'Virgin', Server: 'localhost', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: 'gin Media POP3 server ready [ e4c558782VN ].', Port: 15110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90". So the server response appears truncated when fed via spambayes (but not via stunnel alone). I get a similar error text with hotmail. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling spambayes, and turned off message caching. I really, really don't want to dispense with my hammie and spammie db's as these are obviously the reason that spambayes has a near perfect record, even now. Any suggestions as to what could be going wrong? Thanks

I got a message from Outlook that I needed to disable SpamBayes and then reinstall it. I disabled it, deleted it, uninstalled it—I’m pretty sure I got that part correct. I’ve downloaded it again and tried to reinstall it, but it will not work. I've tried several things to overcome whatever obstacle it is that I have hit and I have reached a point of total disconnect between what I understand and what is happening. If someone would be willing to talk me through this, I will provide a toll-free phone number. Vic Fleming

Unwanted processing of items already in Inbox

Hi everyone (anyone?) I've used Spambayes in the past with Outlook 2003 (and before that with Outlook Express) and found it excellent. I've just had to reinstall Windows XP and Spambayes, and now that I find that as soon as I enable it, it insists on processing all the items that are already in my Inbox (about 8000 items). I just want to train it on new mail as it arrives. I was able to do that last time and it worked fine. Can anyone point out what I have done wrong? I found this email link on the Spambayes FAQ page. I'm not sure where I will find any replies I receive but perhaps one of you would be good enough to tell me. Many thanks Chris Woodman

SpamBayes 1.1a6 not working since upgrade Debian Lenny -> Squeeze (with Python 2.6.6)

A couple of days ago I upgraded my server from Debian Lenny to Debian Squeeze. This is my current version of Python: $ python --version Python 2.6.6 According to the 1.0.4 release notes, the 1.1 version is built with Python 2.4. According to the 1.1a6 release notes, Python >= 2.4 is required. (your work, Skip) My questions are: * is SpamBayes 1.1a6 compatible with Python 2.6.6? * if yes: what is my next course of action to make it work again? * if no: how can I help?
