This may happen because of DEP - Data Execution Prevention. I had this happen with both MSOffice 2003/2007 under XP. Resolution: 1. System Props > Advanced > Performance [Settings] > Data Execution Prevention 2. Turn on DEP for all except. 3. Check and/or Add Microsoft Office Outlook. Outlook does not crash anymore on startup.
