Hi Michael, I see your point, but this is not what I am looking for. What I'm trying to achieve goes on the following lines: the user has a GUI and works. A daemon (I'm on Linux) receives a message for the user, so it pops-up a little notification symbol (there is actualy a bit more inter-process communication, but it is not relevant for the GUI part). If the user checks right away what's going on, then the pop-up dissapears. But (s)he may decide to check later, and even decide to close the application; the symbol needs to stay there. My symbol is not intrusive, is a little undecorated window, the size of the "close", "restore", and "minimise" buttons, and I place it close to them. It is on a red background, so it attracts attention, but the user can work with it there without problems. That's why I need to "dettach" it. tkFileDialog: shuts down root window

Hello, I'm using python tkinter to create a GUI. I wish to collect 4 files from a user so for this part I created a GUI that has a Label, Entry and Button. To get the file I use tkFileDialog askopenfilename. My problem is that after a few file selections using the tkFileDialog, the root window is destroyed (the whole program just dissappears). I have created a simpler example and was able to reproduce the same thing with this. I've just started using tkinter so I have no idea what I may be doing wrong. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. If you run the following code, just click the Browse button, and select a file. The file selected is displayed in the Entry field. Click the Browse button again and select another file or the same file. Do those steps several times and for me after the sixth or seventh time the window shuts down. If I restart the program, it may only take one or two times for the root window to be destroyed. BTW, I'm using python 2.4 on Windows XP. Sizing

This is an ignorant question, so thanks in advance for your patience. I'm trying to code a card game, and I have lots of little .gif's used to display card images as follows: from Tkinter import * import Image, ImageTk ... class Card(object): def display(self, canvas, x, y, angle) im = Image.open(self.URL) im = im.rotate(angle) self.image = ImageTk.PhotoImage(im) canvas.create_image(x,y,image=self.image) ... The idea is to show four hands of 13 cards, each hand facing inwards. Oddly, when I display them, the right hand gets truncated. The dimensions of the canvas print out as 265x378. I can fix it by assigning height and width of the canvas manually, but it made me wonder: why doesn't the canvas autosize? Thanks, Jeff Cagle

How do I get a list of the cascades ("File", "Help" - just looping through Top.entrycget(i, "label") seems to do that) and then a list of the items in those cascades ("Quit", "About")? Can't get sorted list of fonts on my system

Bug in pybwidgets/ListBox?

When the BWidgets listbox is placed inside a panewindow, it does not properly display the selectforeground/selectbackground colors--in fact, it provides no visual feedback at all that a listbox item is selected.
