Hello, I am a (brand spankin' new)-bie, and the documentation contains something that i tripped over. "The most prevalent kind of plug-in is the TAP (Twisted Application builder) type." On the first read, I stumbled. On the second, i thought maybe it's a missprint and tried to guess at what was really meant. The catch is that there is no capital P in this acronym expansion. Newbie think: "(Twisted Application _Pickle_ builder)?" or "Why isnt it called TAB? or TAb?" ... Then I joined #twisted on irc.freenode as LordBrain, here is a snippet: <_moshez> yes <LordBrain> ok <_moshez> it's "Twisted APplication" <LordBrain> ooooooh <LordBrain> thanks <spiv> _moshez: :) <LordBrain> now it makes more sense <spiv> _moshez: It is? Actually, I'll update the glossary. <LordBrain> but not in this case <_moshez> spiv: mktap is "MaKe Twisted APplication" <_moshez> while web.tap is "Web Twisted Application Pickle" Non-newbies ascertain which is meant by context. There are multiple places where this acronym is expanded in the Documentation. Consider changing all of them so that the second p in Application is capitalized (when/if appropriate). For example, the line that tripped me would read: "The most prevalent kind of plug-in is the TAP (Twisted APplication builder) type." [Twisted-Python] OpenLDAP mapping

Hi, I have made a t.e like mapping for OpenLDAP client library. I have used the old twisted LDAP while it was still in Twisted but there was no documentation for it and I realy didn't have time to go over the code to sort things out. I see there is no LDAP support in Twisted anymore so I made this mapping. I'm sending you a schema file, API mapping and an example for adding data to LDAP server.... jimbo

OK...I'm obviously not QUITE grokking something with Deferreds, and I've spent FAR too long on something that's probably WAY too simple. I've been trying to use a Deferred from an adbapi connection in a web page display, and I'm just doing something wrong. I get the data, but the page is already rendered. I know the query's working, b/c the callback function writes to the log. At this point, I've given up and used a blocking call just for example purposes. Once the callback runs, the resultlist is available there, and I can write it (for example) to the log. So I know it's working. Just not in sync with the rest of things. So I realize the problems...but I'm just-not-seeing-the-Deferred-way. Can someone give me a dumb-stupid example, getting basically the same info as above into a webpage, using adbapi rather than a blocking call? I find tantalizing mentions of the use of Deferreds in various places, but I don't see any easy examples. I like easy. *grin* For starters, anyway. As to format, I don't care. Use woven, Quixote PTL, Web Widgets, direct writes, whatever floats your boat. I hope that once I see it and play with it a tad, the lightbulb will turn on in my beany little head. [Twisted-Python] reactor installation

I have a program which uses Qt and glues to Twisted via qtreactor. As of 1.0.0 (ish - worked with most of the 0.99s), it no longer initialises, bleating that a reactor is already loaded. The structure of this program is mildly eccentric: as part of my "explore UIs in Python" activity it was intended to have pluggable UIs in wx and Qt (actual experience of wx dissuaded me of this), and so it perhaps initialises the reactor rather later in the game than usual. Is there a way I can take control over, or at least debug, reactor init?

Hi, Since I've just guessed how the DNS Server stuff works in twisted, I may be doing something stupid. Example program: from twisted.protocols import dns from twisted.names.dns import DNSServerBoss, DNSServerFactory, SimpleDomain from twisted.internet import reactor a = DNSServerFactory() s = SimpleDomain("example.net", "192.168.8.26") a.boss.addDomain("example.net", s) a.boss.createBothFactories() a.boss.startListeningBoth(53) reactor.run() This works great for example.net: (nbm@pike) /home/nbm> host example.net 127.0.0.1 Using domain server 127.0.0.1: example.net has address 192.168.8.26 example.net mail is handled (pri=5) by example.net This works non-great for other domains - it just sits there, slowly timing out for each query made (due to 'search' or 'domain' in resolv.conf). Traceback makes it obvious where the problem is: File "/usr/local/lib/python2.2/site-packages/twisted/names/dns.py", line 370, in getAnswers name = string.split(name, '.', 1)[1] exceptions.IndexError: list index out of range Ok, that's easy, and that's the first patch (twisted.names.dns.py-noerror.patch). Once applied, it still doesn't quite work: (nbm@pike) /home/nbm> host example.org 127.0.0.1 Using domain server 127.0.0.1: There is an entry for this host, but it doesn't have a Mail Exchanger record. Second patch (no idea if this is what DNS is supposed to do) makes that more like I expect it to return: (nbm@pike) /home/nbm> host example.org 127.0.0.1 Using domain server 127.0.0.1: Host not found. People who want to use it for documenting their own Python stuff are invited to.
