Hello, it's me again ;o) So there's this server I'm porting from a ForkingTCPServer to twisted. It listens on a socket, and reads one line at a time, processes the line and writes the answer back on the socket to the client. The ForkingTCPServer version uses a handler deriving from StreamRequestHandler, and gets the data with self.rfile.readline(). The twisted version uses a LineReceiver protocol. Now, if I use telnet to connect to both version of the server, I can type some data, press return and get the answer back. This is great. However, if I use nc send the data, the twisted-based server sees nothing (lineReceived is not called!) I have to admit I'm baffled, and I'll take any idea. -- Alexandre

ok, the insecurejelly error i was getting i found was actually due to trying to store the observer(s) in the Cacheable object itself. . evidently jelly doesnt take too kindly to having these objects in there when it serializes the Cacheable. . i was able to get around this by storing the observer in the perspective that is passed as the first argument to getStateToCacheAndObserveFor the docs say storing the observer(s) in the Cacheable is the preferred method no? "It is recommended that your object maintain a list (note: library support for this is forthcoming!) of observers, and update them using callRemote when the Cacheable changes in a way that should be noticeable to its clients." so, my new question is: what IS the preferred way to store observers? ------------------------- i have a feeling the answer was in the first round of responses i got ( greatly appreciated, thank you ), but i still do not entirely understand what the best method would be. . again, thanks for the advice AND the KILLER framework. . :D car Get your free encrypted email at https://www.hushmail.com

[Twisted-Python] newbie comments on documentation

Hi there, I'm starting with twisted (debian package 0.99.2-4), and I'm currently trying to convert a SimpleTCPServer based project to twisted, and therefore reading the documentation and trying to wrap my head around the framework. Here's a few comments. I'm a good (python) programmer, but a complete twisted newbie, and I think I may not be the only one with the same problems/doubts/questions on the documentation. The file quoters.py uses twisted.python.components.Interface, though the text in the Plugin HOWTO says that "Note that this module does not import any Twisted functionality at all!". It is not clear if the Interface declaration is needed or not from reading the code and the HOWTO. The file quoteproto.py imports twisted.internet.app.Application, which is never used. The import line should be removed from the example file. That's all for now. -- Alexandre

[Twisted-Python] How to implement progress/transfer speed/transfered bytes handlers?

Hi, I want to use twisted as nntp client. Is it possible to add somewhere into the streams something like a progress bar or something that reports the download speed or the total transferred bytes? I have not looked too deeply into twisted, but as I understand it it uses the Decorator pattern between the connection and the actual handler. All I would need is to add a little class somewhere in between each connection and the handler, so that I can decorate the Protocol.dataReceived events... in the book to get the example for widget working it says that we have to do a twistd -g Example and that this Example should be placed in a ~/TwistedPlugins directory. This is not clear at all on a windows based machine. Where the heck is this TwistedPlugins directory supposed to exist ? .... in c:\python22\scripts ??? hi! Patch for twisted.enterprise.row to allow a whereClause specified as String too and to allow ORDER BY clause(will be checked if it's a valid column). while doing this i found out that in twisted.enterprise.row the variable(String) 'type' is used.
