1. I noticed that when Process.__init__ prepares to execute the child process, it closes all fd's from 3 to 255. Is it possible for the child process to inherit open files with fd's greater than 255? I'm concerned that this could happen on busy servers, but this is one aspect of Unix about which I don't know much. 2. [Twisted-Python] suckosity of text/html as default content type

Ok, serving files with content-type set to text/html just blows. Basic logic is that the server should know and set content-type header or set it to application/octet-stream if unknown. A http client can then decide what to do with it. Attached patchlet is in existence just because I don't like opening my mouth without something concrete. Files without extension in their names for example are still not handled properly. I'm going to add parser for mime-types file unless radix beats me to it. --j

[Twisted-Python] New client APIs

Hi, I just checked in a new API for client connections (TCP/SSL/UNIX.) The main change is that you now register a ClientFactory using reactor.connectTCP (or Application.connectTCP). Various callbacks will get called on the factory, allowing you to reconnect on a failure or lost connection, let users abort connections, and so on. So, these policies are now done in the *factory* - connectionFailed will no longer be called on protocols unless you use the old deprecated APIs. So what does this mean to you? If you are a Twisted developer, please take a look and see if you have any further needs or issues with the implementation. If all goes well (and this is the second refactoring I've done, I don't expect many changes) we need to start updating all the code to use the new APIs. For example, FTP tests are failing right now, due to my not making the backwards compatability code totally backwards compatible. This is fine by me - the new API is much nicer and will make everyone's life easier, so it's not worth the time making the old API work exactly the same. [Twisted-Python] Newbie: Help with twisted.web, HTTPClient

I just started playing with Twisted last week; great stuff! My question is this: I have an .rpy file, which defines a Resource. As part of this Resource's render method, I need to perform an http GET against another server, which of course causes the twisted.web server to block. From looking through the source code, it looks like the HTTPClient should be what I need to perform a non-blocking http GET from within my resource, but I cannot find any information on how to use it; just creating an instance and doing sendCommand fails, stating that there is no transport. I guess I could just use httplib.HTTPConnection, but I'd have to run that in a separate thread in order to prevent blocking, and it just seems like I shouldn't need to use threads for something so simple. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Daniel Burr

[Twisted-Python] Have you checked out CherryPy?

Hello all, There's an interesting light-weight web application platform called CherryPy (why cherry? who knows..). The idea of generating the web server from source is similar to twisted's mktap. However, it takes .cpy files and creates a .py which is run like a normal python program: $ python MyWebApp.py This will launch a web server listening on port 8000 by default. CherryPy has 2 templating laguages which serve different purposes. It's actually quite simple to use as far as templating languages go. Of course, it's only analogous to twisted.web - which is only a part of the twisted erm...twisted super-framework? Apart from the interesting thing that CherryPy is, the thing that surprised me was the docs. Take a look at the docs! Considering that it's only version 0.2, the docs are really good! Thanks. I tend to prefer other techniques (like AFactory) over inheritance when possible, but since inheritance is the Twisted Way, I'll do it that way.
