took me longer to write this mail, than to convert a simple pygame based scrolling game to twisted + pygame. works great: without fps limits i lose about 3-5 fps compared to the Clock.tick(n) based loop. if the game engine takes care of events and updates with a single call per frame, all you need to do is get rid of pygame.time.Clock calls, and do scheduled updates with reactor.callLater. paul

Hi! We have a need for an SMTP server, and found the current implementation a bit fragile. This patch should robustify it, and also improve RFC 2821 compliance (no guarantees though). I didn't touch the SMTP client (apart from adding the double-dot protocol), but I suspect I'll look over it as well. Comments, etc are welcome. Authorizer.addCallback's documentation says "Create an identity and make a callback when it has been created." So I figured that meant I should have DefaultAuthorizer return a defer.succeed/fail instead of None/raise. But returning a defer.fail makes test_cred.AuthorizerTestCase.test_addIdent fail, as it has an assertRaises in there. So who is wrong? I'm trying to figure out how to shut down a Service. Assuming you're keeping a list of perspectives signed on (presumably with the perspective.attached and detached methods), how do you kick them off? You can just nuke the transport, but with pb.IdentityConnector enabling the use of multiple services over a single transport, that probably isn't a good idea anymore. Hi twisters, here's a patch for parsing accept and accept-language HTTP headers. They are contained in a priority queue which can also be retrieved as a list. Perhaps some other methods could be convenient, but as it's late I let you advise which. tigrux on #twisted has kindly provided a .src.rpm. I've got a copy in ~spiv/twisted-0.99.2rc3-1mdk.src.rpm on pyramid. Someone should make this accessible from the website. It's built for Mandrake I believe, but with some luck RH users will find it useful too. Now if only RH had a modern version of Python ;) And thanks to tigrux for volunteering this! :) -Andrew.

Currently, if you have multiple deferreds in flight and one of them fails, future failures aren't handled nicely at all. This patch works on improving that, but isn't perfect yet. It also handles a few other things ... callbacks that were having an exception raised didn't display that in the web interface ... and if we do that, we should just return the Failure back to Deferred._runCallbacks as well to swap over to the errback chain. A quick grep through the Twisted source doesn't show any web-related places this is likely to get raised. It does reveal the fact that there are two cred Unauthorized exception classes, one defined in cred.util and the other in cred.error. Commenting out the whole 'except util.Unauthorized' block in server.Request.process doesn't cause any tests to fail. So I'd like to know: When are we expecting util.Unauthorized to get raised? Quick question: Even if an object is of an unknown wacky type (say Zope's extension class), shouldn't jelly (and friends) check for callable(getattr(obj, '__getstate__, None)) anyway (i.e. treat it like an InstanceType and see what happens)? It looks like this is what pickle does. -Andrew.

Oops ... that should read: "Twisted does _not_ prevent it..." Twisted is great. Eric is an idiot. Some more details for the internet to record for posterity: The X.25 interface under Linux is socket based. You can use your friends listen/connect/accept/send/recv with the underlying X.25 drivers. The X.25 API on Sun and IBM AIX is SysV Streams based, and you interact with the X.25 device with different system calls. As you know, twisted works great for sockets, and it _seems_ like … [View More]it would be simple enough to do. But Python does not quite support the interface necessary to create real X.25 connections. With some simple C extensions you can expose the API. The main problem is that the format of a X.25 address is quite different from a TCP/IP address. Once you get a file descriptor, it can be integrated with the Reactor. My only problems with Twisted were trying to make the X.25 API as full-featured as a TCP/IP connection. With some effort, I'm sure it can be done. I've successfully used X.25 against the Linux loopback device, and on the real hardware under Solaris and AIX. I've done all three with Python. Hi, I've just started playing with Twisted 0.99.0. Bear with me please. I'd like to use widgets, but I do not understand how to 'hook' a widget into twisted web. The Example uses config.tac to specify main.Gadget() and 'twistd -g Example' to start the server. If I've got a web.tap, how do I use a widget?
