[Twisted-Python] Deferred problem

I'm trying to construct a new class for authentification by a database. I used the class FilePasswordDB in checkers to build my own class DatabaseAuthentification. I think my logic is alright but I get an Deferred error. I tested my query in an other page and I know that's working fine. The problem is that I don't know how I can make my program wait for the result of my query (the query is very short). I tried to use defer.succeed but it doesn't seem to work. Forgive me, I'm a little confused. I've had some trouble trying to implement a seemingly simple web server using Woven, so the mention of this "nevow" peaked my curiosity. On www.divmod.org I check out Quotient and it appears to be nothing but an email app. Here's what I've got and what I'm trying to accomplish: I've already created a twisted server app and client app. The client can connect to the server, pass client info to the server for management, query the server for all of the info that it is managing, and the client can manipulate this info(modify some attributes, delete info). Now I want to create a web interface to this server, so that anybody can access the server's info through a browser. I want the users to have the same capabilities that the twisted client app provides. For GUI I want text input fields, tables, buttons inside and outside of tables, and maybe a chunk of browser space devoted to chat. With Woven I can create tables and buttons just fine, but input handling is baffling me, and I'm suspicious of webConduitGlue which is supposedly necessary for JavaScript to work and may or may not be related to my input troubles. Is Twisted and/or Woven and/or Nevow a good technology for tackling this sort of problem? Or is should I be looking at other technologies (JAVA applets, JSP, servlets, CGI, ASP)? I'm lacking direction for the moment and my confidence in Twisted is shaky(or is it just my understanding of Twisted?). I welcome and appreciate any thoughts from this Twisted community. Since twisted is a large project with many external developers using it, and quotient is a smaller project that is mostly a small core team of development, we felt it made sense to keep it out of twisted proper until the development had stabilized. Since nevow has the benefit of being a complete rewrite of all the *best* parts of woven, and none of the bad, stabilization has been remarkably quick. So expect to see nevow in twisted fairly soon. In the meantime, woven will continue to be maintained with bugfixes, and nevow is fully usable outside of quotient -- even to the point of being fully usable without twisted.web (as a cgi, or in zope or webware, for example). I should also mention that there will probably be a compatibility layer for nevow to render old-style Woven classes sometime in the future. It is amazingly simple to add rendering functionality to it since it uses components to render the dom (which is really just a list of any python objects) If you are doing any new development, I highly encourage you to take a look at nevow, if for no other reason than you can have a hand in shaping it's development. [Twisted-Python] Minor web site problem

When I click on the Twisted logo to go to the downloads section, and then click on the logo at the top of the page to get back to the main page, I'm sent to http://twistedmatrix.com// and get the error "No Such Resource" when running Mozilla, or just the default "Page cannot be found" page that IE displays if using IE. This happens on pretty much any page when you click the logo to get back to /. Minor problem, but it would make the web site seem more professional if that didn't happen. :-) Thanks. -Justin

More curiosity: * What is the preferred mechanism for local echo of characters on the client side? Presumably TM has hooks for such things, with all its event handling capabilities. * The Shell class lives in telnet.py and the Telnet superclass lives in a file with the same name. I suggest a file name change here, maybe telnet_shell.py. * The factoring between Telnet class and Shell doesn't seem clean, on initial impression. Telnet is already halfway towards a server-only functionality, all of which should be factored into Shell. The Telnet protocol class should be agnostic between server and client usage.

[Twisted-Python] Telnet Client as Line Receiver?

I need advice on telnet. What is the current recommended best practice for writing a telnet client? According to the documentation on Class LineReceiver, it is "A protocol that receives lines and/or raw data, depending on mode." This statement pretty much covers telnet, which is basically line-oriented terminal stuff (actually older than the internet itself). Yet the current 1.1.0 telnet code seems weirdly scattered across TM: * There is no class relationship to LineReceiver. * There exists a telnet server class ("Shell") but no symmetric telnet client class exists anywhere. Other TM protocols offer both. * Some of the telnet code is stuck in the (deprecated?) manhole modules. For testing only I got the Shell subclass working, but my real need is a telnet client that can talk to embedded devices over Ethernet. Advice? Should I multiply inherit from LineReceiver and Telnet? Should I subclass Shell and pervert its server functionality into client functionality? Since I have to do this work anyway, I would be willing to help with any necessary changes to the Twisted library. Tell me what needs doing, and I will do it, to the extent that it overlaps with my work requirements. The telnet code looks like it's in transition or maybe stale. Hi all, I need to query a remote HTTP server using POST method. To achieve this, I use the t.w.c.getPage function. In order to post some data, I pass to that function the keyword postdata bound to an urllib.urlencode()-d dictionary but it seems that such data is not sent at all. What is wrong? Here is a minimal example: the url is a PHP scripts that simply dumps the content of the $_POST variable, but it is an empty array... [Twisted-Python] Problem using LivePage/javascripts/event handlers

I'm a relative noob to Twisted and Woven, but I'm trying to use them to serve some dynamic web content without success. There's two spots that I am most interested in: When I include <span view="webConduitGlue" /> in my xhtml file, the browser will spin its wheels forever. A big empty box is displayed at the bottom of the browser window and the browser status displays Transferring data from <myIP:port> ... . This behavior is consistent on Mozilla (I'm on Red Hat Linux OS) and on the latest Netscape (7.1). I checked to make sure javascript options were turned on in Netscape.
