Hi, I'm new to the list and I'm just starting with Twisted and Woven. I think the framework is great, but I'm having some problems. When I try to make two nested <div>, both with independent queries, I get na error, the solution I've found is to create another model called "loaddata", which does nothing, except call the queries. The first three arguments are lists of `waitable objects': either integers representing file descriptors or objects with a parameterless method named fileno() returning such an integer. The three lists of waitable objects are for … [View More]input, output and `exceptional conditions', respectively. Empty lists are allowed, but acceptance of three empty lists is platform-dependent. (It is known to work on Unix but not on Windows.) The optional timeout argument specifies a time-out as a floating point number in seconds. When the timeout argument is omitted the function blocks until at least one file descriptor is ready. A time-out value of zero specifies a poll and never blocks. The return value is a triple of lists of objects that are ready: subsets of the first three arguments. When the time-out is reached without a file descriptor becoming ready, three empty lists are returned. Among the acceptable object types in the lists are Python file objects (e.g. sys.stdin, or objects returned by open() or os.popen()), socket objects returned by socket.socket(). You may also define a wrapper class yourself, as long as it has an appropriate fileno() method (that really returns a file descriptor, not just a random integer). Note: File objects on Windows are not acceptable, but sockets are. On Windows, the underlying select() function is provided by the WinSock library, and does not handle file desciptors that don't originate from WinSock. This is also a subject of interest to me, but all I can think of is handling the sockets via select() and polling periodically for data on the serial port using callLater() and some win32 calls. Maybe the win32 serial port handling could even be wrapped in a 'waitable object' as described above for use with the Python select() call. I recall reading somewhere that the twisted framework has the ability to handle serial communications in connection with Global Positioning System device interaction, but don't have any information about it. Reading the docs on the twisted web server I see that it automatically handles object publishing. But what if I want to respond to requests that aren't based on a object structure? IOW: Client does a GET on: localhost/infodir/subdir/doc.txt in this case infodir, subdir, and doc.txt would actually be info to lookup in a database on the fly, no object structure. Is this possible? i was going through the docs, and i found the two classes in twisted/python/plugin.py, and i was wondering what the difference is between the two. i'd like to be able to make a sort of plugin that when the plugin package is in the path, it interacts in arbitrary ways with my main application. however, i don't think i'd want it to appear in mktap, as that doesn't really make sense in this situation.....or does it? -phil

Is it possible (or even useful) to have a protocol which expects the factory which builds it to have a specific interface? (as the protocol has a .factory attribute and therefore can access methods and attributes on it's factory) or must all twisted.protocols be able to work with internet.protocol.Factory() off-the-shelf?

I have a serious problem with some woven applications where deferreds and their results returned from wmfactory_ methods are not garbage collected. They just stack up in gc.garbage. The python documentation states that the contents of gc.garbage are objects that are part of a cycle can't be collected because they have a __del__ method. Any help on this issue would be really appreciated.

I've looked at the log module documentation of twisted.python and more or less guess that you can redirect the print statement to a log, and somehow observe the stuff that is being logged in case you want to write it somewhere else too. I was able to redirect the Python print statement to a disk file, but am at a loss when it comes to properly configuring and installing an observer. I want to observe the logging stream and throw it out to a Tkinter text window. Thanks in advance for any advice.

In desperation, I uninstalled all the Python things (Python 2.3 and Pythonwin), reinstalled Python 2.3, installed Twisted, and then Pythonwin and all the installations seemed to go OK. If each deferred need a callback method, I have already more that thirty functiones defined, and each time I need more. I'm running Python 2.3 on Windows 2000 version 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4 and having trouble running the Twisted-1.1.0.win32-py2.3.exe installation. I downloaded the .exe to a local folder, got to the Install button, clicked on it and while the "Saving uninstall information" message was displayed but before the progress bar showed any progress, I got a Setup message box saying "CreateFile failed; code 5. I have a form in a web page and I need to fill it with many sql queries but only the first time the page is rendered. The other times, I want to fill it with the data from request.args. I decided to build a dictionnary that looks like the dictionnary of request.args to be able to use only one function to validate and fill my form. But I think that return doesnt wait that the addCallback is done. Is there something I can do to make my returns wait for the addCallback to return the new node filled with the dictionnary of data. Hi, This may well be a very trivial question but i have been trying to get the UDP multicasting example in the "how to" section of the twisted documentation to work and have had no success. I can do TCP message and normal UDP but cant multicast it. It does not report any errors but nothing every seems to be received by the echo server. In woven, html elements are automatically given an id (eg. <div id="woven_id_18612312">... where the number is id(self) for the view). I have a div tag I'm trying to using to dump error logs into on the fly with LivePage and display them to the user. It seems that I cannot reference a tag by name with javascript, so I need access to the auto-generated id. If I had the id I could do something similar to the example below. I was running twistd on windows, serving out a custom tap which is just a web app and a pb service. As it was doing it's thing, suddenly a ton of output started dumping on the log. Did I find a bug in the win32 event reactor, or am I hitting some sort of limit? I can send some code along if necessary, but nothing in the log looks specific to my code. I've added minimal SOAP client support to Twisted. I did it by copying a bit of code from twisted/web/xmlrpc.py and by using some of the functionality from SOAPpy and adding it to twisted/web/soap.py. I've tested it lightly and it seems to work. [Twisted-Python] UNIXServer and its socket

In my application I have a server that listens on a UNIX socket. When I kill the application, the socket file remains in the filesystem so when I restart it I always achieve an "Address already in use" error. Should I delete it manually any time I stop the application or is there a more elegant way to solve this problem? The application is a plugin for twistd. Thank you in advance. Matteo
