Hi, I am working my way through "The Twisted Documentation" Jan 29, 2003 and found a problem with an example (or with me). At http://twistedmatrix.com/documents/howto/plugin it says: % mktap qotd Saving qotd application to qotd.tap... Saved. % twistd -f qotd.tap % nc localhost 8007 An apple a day keeps the doctor away. % kill `cat twistd.pid` The problem is when I run 'mktap qotd' I get the following error: Unknown command: qotd and then it prints the usage and options help. I am using python 2.2.1 and Twisted 1.0.3 Any help would be appreciated. Ray

RedHat 9.0 on intel Twisted 1.0.4 In twisted.enterprise.adbapi we find this method of ConnectionPool: def _runQuery(self, args, kw): conn = self.connect() curs = conn.cursor() try: apply(curs.execute, args, kw) result = curs.fetchall() curs.close() finally: conn.rollback() return result I do not understand the logic of always running a rollback even if the query is successful. I would, instead, expect this: def _runQuery(self, args, kw): conn = self.connect() curs = conn.cursor() try: apply(curs.execute, args, kw) result = curs.fetchall() curs.close() except: conn.rollback() raise return result And, indeed, this is _exactly_ what we see in adbapi._runOperation, which is the method following _runQuery. -Eric PS. [Twisted-Python] Trial Refactoring

I've made some pretty significant changes to trial tonight [1][2]. They have been mainly focussed on refactoring to reduce repeated code, and on being able to extend trial. The tests work for me [3]. If they don't work for you, this is probably the reason. Please check for your platform as soon as possible and let the list know. I have tried hard to keep the functionality as close to the original as possible, but there have been some changes. [Twisted-Python] enterprise.dbcred.DatabaseAuthorizer

I'm going to be hacking on DatabaseAuthorizer soon(er or later). * Is anybody using it? The current code is pretty crufty, so I'll probably just replace it once the hacking is done, unless it's actually being used. * Does anyone have a wishlist for it? [Twisted-Python] Version support: a note

If we do decide to drop support for a widely-deployed version of Python, it is my firm belief that we should make setup.py fail loudly when used with those versions. If nothing else, it will make sure the Debian build will never work until I actually remove the build of non-supported versions. Which reminds me: please don't drop 2.1 support until sarge's freeze (not release -- but post-freeze, I'll be assured of my new uploads not getting into sarge, and I'd really like sarge's Twisted to support 2.1) -- Moshe Zadka -- http://moshez.org/ Buffy: I don't like you hanging out with someone that... short. [Twisted-Python] newbie -- trying to do async ldap operations

First to set my perspective -- I never heard of Twisted before two days ago. I have an XMLRPC server built with the Medusa framework. I am looking at moving the methods to Twisted in order to take advantage of Deferreds, SSL support, and based on my brief exposure, the overall framework seems cleaner. This is a simplification, but to keep this short I have an XMLRPC method that returns results from an LDAP search. Currently the searches are synchronous but they are fast enough that it has not been a problem. Now I need to expand the search filter options which will (could) result in a slower search. The OpenLDAP API (and python-ldap) supports asynchronus searching. Sounds perfect. A call to ldap.search_s() returns a message ID which is later used in a call to result() to get the results. ldap.result() takes the message ID, and a timeout argument which if zero is in effect a poll. So what I want is for my XMLRPC method to invoke search_s and get the message ID. Then create a defered and provide its callback and the message ID to something that will poll ldap.result() until it returns results (if results are not ready it will return [None, None]) and then pass those to the callback. Here's where I get confused; I think the call to ldap.result() needs to be done by reactor somehow since ldap.result() may need to be called repeatedly before results are ready) but I'm not sure. The whole deferred light bulb has not quite come on for me yet, so I appreciate any guidance. The defer HOWTO examples all use something like reactor.callLater() to represent a "delayed result" which is not really helping me. The XMLRPC example of returning a defered just returns defer.succeed("hello"), again not quite a rich enough example. I thought about adapting the adbapi stuff for LDAP, but the notion is in my head that I should be able to do this without threads since the ldap API supports async operations.
