[Twisted-Python] Communicating between listeners

I'm new to Twisted, and network programming in general. Can anyone provide an example that might help me code the following functionality: * Server listens on two ports, one TCP, one UDP * Incoming UDP datagrams contain an identifying string * A message is broadcast to all connected TCP clients whose username matches the UDP ID. In particular, I can't work out how to access details of the current TCP clients - and trigger a new message to some of them - from the UDP listener. I'm using a simple pb server with a pb.Root object (don't need authentication). What I want to do is release the connection from the server-side. Server code looks like: class MyPerspective(pb.Root): .... .... main: reactor.listenTCP(port,pb.PBServerFactory(MyPerspective(self))) so far so good. MyPerspective receives all the remote_ calls. Now I'd like to be able to get rid of a specific client (which holds a remote-reference to MyPerspective). With the old pb api there was a way to do call perspective.broker.transport.loseConnection(), which I was using on the client side to end the connection. I can't see anything like this with the new API that would allow me to initiate the "kick off" from the server side. Can this be done? What would be the propper way to release a connection from the server side? Thanks for any enlightenment. [Twisted-Python] adding etag and modified arguments to twisted feedparser

hi, I am having trouble modifying the twisted-based rss aggregator from the python cookbook so that feedparser can make use of the update related arguments of 'etag' and 'modified' and save bandwith. (see http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Cookbook/Python/Recipe/277099) I realise that the problem is deferred related, but I can't seem to resolve the problem, even after reading the deferred documentation. Anyway, the series of deferred functions that I think are relevant are: 1) def getPage(self, data, args): #args is the rss feed link return client.getPage(args,timeout=TIMEOUT) 2) def parseFeed(self, feed): parsed = feedparser.parse(cStringIO.StringIO(feed)) The problem is that getPage() requests the entire rss feed, and then passes the stream through to feedparser.parse. Normally however, feedparser.parse() takes furthers arguments of 'etag' and 'modified' so that only new feed information is returned, thereby saving bandwidth. I tried modifying getPage() to return feedparser.parse(args), but it runs substantially slower than the original method, I presume in a synchronous manner. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. cheers, Selwyn

[Twisted-Python] Serving files from other web-servers on a web-server

Hi, I got a subnett full of web-servers using twisted and a main web-server based on twisted as well. The main server is available to the outside world. I want to serve files on the other web-servers on the subnett thru the main web-server. There may be many concurrent users on the main server so it has to be able to handle many clients. A few users connect to the main server, requesting files on the subnett web-servers. The main server reads data from several subnett servers and writes the data back to the requesting clients. How can I do this in twisted, without blocking, and handle several clients? We're not talking hardcore P2P here with thousands of clients, most likely 2-5 concurrent users, 10 at the most. Any hints? [Twisted-Python] LoopingCall(): Threaded or not?

Hi all, I'm using twisted.internet.task.LoopingCall() to perform various housekeeping chores. One of the things I'm using it for is to clean up stale locks left behind by stalled network clients. However, I don't want it cleaning up a lock while my other twisted code is executing, as that could introduce a race condition. So, my question is whether a LoopingCall() will only run in the single thread of execution used for application code, or if it is threaded off and could very well be executing at the same time as my own code.
