For no good reason, I've been trying to implement a basic FTP server w/ Twisted 2.2. After a few puzzling exceptions, some custom code, TOSSING the custom code, and more quality time with the source, I've come to the conclusion that I need a nudge in the right direction. [Twisted-Python] Removal of deprecated twisted.python.components functionality

Everything that was previously marked as deprecated in twisted.python.components (and has been since Twisted 2.0) is now being removed. fixClassImplements and backwardsCompatImplements are now no-ops, and if you have them in any of your code, you should remove them. Unfortunately we missed deprecating a few things, so not everything has been able to be removed yet. Rather than thinking of your goal as "blocking" the user from starting a new command when once is pending, think of it as "deferring" execution of any new commands entered by the user. With that Twisted-compatible mindset in place, you can design a queue for deferring your user's commands. If no commands are pending in the queue, you simply run it right away and return a deferred to its result, as has been discussed. If the user starts a new command while the first is still pending, simply wrap the execution of that new command in its own deferred and chain it to the pending deferred. If the new command depends on the result of the pending one, that's just fine. When the first command completes, its result will be passed to the callback that will then run your second-entered command. The outcome of all will be pretty cool for your user. He can type "x = hugeFunction(a)" and get something like "Computing 'x = hugeFunction(a)...'" Being impatient, he can then type "y = massiveFunction(x)" and then get "Waiting for x to compute 'y = hugeFunction(x)...'" and so on. Instead of being forced to just sit and wait, he can *benefit* from the async power of Twisted by being able to stack up his computations and see the whole chain of deferred operations. By the way, I've been down this "it must block" road myself several times before I eventually realized that it will never work. Hi, I have a function that returns a Deferred. I need to have the result of this Deferred returned in a (apparently) blocking/synchronous manner: def myfuncBlocking(): d = myfuncReturnsDeferred() ... result = return result I need to be able to call this function like: result = myfuncBlocking() The question is how to get the result out of the Deferred() and make it *look* like myfuncBlocking() has blocked. Teratorn and I are stepping up to support twisted on windows, and the first thing we need to figure out is a list of fixes and features, by priority. Our top priority is definitely making a windows reactor pass all of the tests, but beyond that there are numerous issues. Greetings, I'm experimenting with PB because I want to pass keyword arguments to my remote methods, and I cannot do that with XML-RPC. But, I can't seem to do it with PB either. I was wondering if anyone could confirm or deny that **kwargs work with PB remote objects. Thanks, Don

[Twisted-Python] Conch and Rsync

I have an application that runs on Windows, and I want to be able to sync files back and forth from/to a unix server. The unix server has sshd and rsync. Can I use twisted/conch on the Windows box to call rsync (over ssh) on the unix server to push/pull files to/from the Windows box ??? Do I need something like rsync.py in my Windows app ? If so, would it be an rsync client and/or server ? Thanks for any info and thoughts. Brendan.
