I am sorry if I sound stupid or you feel I may not be looking hard enough in the current documentation, however I am looking for documentation on the transport attribute that is available to the t.i.p.Protocol class. I don't see anything about this attribute, so If i hadn't seen code examples I would not have known it was even available. Again I apologize if I am missing something here, can someone shed some light. Thanks, -Lee

[Twisted-Python] Plugins as event subscribers?

Hi! I'm starting my first Twisted project. It will consist of some sort of daemon which will communicate with one game server via UDP protocol and as result of this communication it will fireup some events. All needed functional will provided via plugins. Each plugin will register handler on each event during init process. Each handler will use some sort of core API to communicate with game server (for example to send message to player). Twisted provided enough good usefull options: - Easy low level UDP programming - Easy support of plugins But how about easy providing high level API to plugins? How about non twisted events engine? Should I write theese things from scratch, or I should read documentation more deeper and find some sort of framework to write such things? I don't have much Python expirience, that's why I ask this questions. I've some expirience with Zope and TurboGears web frameworks, they are also Python based, but I suppose this expirience will be useless with Twisted.

[Twisted-Python] How to properly return a dict from adbapi

Hi, I am currently using the below technique to return a list of dicts instead of a tuple of tuples from adbapi. Is there a cleaner way? def dictQuery(self, query): self.execute(query) result = self.fetchall() columns = [d[0] for d in self._cursor.description] return [dict(zip(columns, r)) for r in result] dbPool = adbapi.ConnectionPool('MySQLdb', db, user, pass, host) dbPool.runInteraction(dictQuery, "SELECT whatever FROM table" ).addCallback(callBackFun) Cheers Einar

[Twisted-Python] Debian package problems

Hi. I have noted that the python-twisted package depends on python-twisted-words. Is this really true? For me this is a problem. Today I have updated a Debian Etch server and an upgrade for python-twisted-words requires the installation of GTK and X11! Thanks Manlio Perillo

[Twisted-Python] Webcat.py script from the O'Reilly Twisted book doesn't work on my system. Why?

The following code, from the O'Reilly Twisted book, is supposed to download and print out the contents of a URL. When I run it, however, the value of data is empty. If I type in a bad URL it gives me an error, as it is supposed to. If I replace 'print data' with print "hello world" it prints "hello world." The only thing that doesn't work is that the value of data is empty. I am running Twisted 2.1, Python 2.4.3 and Red Hat 7.3 . What am I doing wrong? [Twisted-Python] using py.test with twisted

Hi, there's been a discussion about using the nose unittest system together with twisted.trial. I'm attaching a short script which enables the py.test system (http://codespeak.net/py/dist/test.html) to execute unittests which use twisted (it's not compatible with trial, instead you have to write your unittests like you would in py.test.). It uses greenlets in order to integrate twisted's mainloop with py.test. This method might also be applicable with nose (and might be a better hack than the threaded_reactor hack). [Twisted-Python] inlineCallbacks: Twisted 2.5's generator-based Deferred microthreads-thingie

Apparently some people are not aware of this new feature in Twisted 2.5 (requires Python 2.5), written by James Knight based on code by Chris Armstrong. Previous versions of Twisted have deferredGenerator, but the syntax isn't as nice. Here's some sample code JP Calderone posted to python-dev recently: from twisted.internet import reactor from twisted.internet.defer import inlineCallbacks from twisted.web.client import getPage @inlineCallbacks def fetchSequence(...): homepage = yield getPage(homepage) firstData = yield getPage(anotherPage) if someCondition(firstData): while: secondData = yield getPage(wherever) if someOtherCondition(secondData): break else: ... Essentially this allows one to "wait" for a Deferred's result. It also does error handling in the way one would expect: just use try/except around the yield. Be *very careful* when using this functionality, as every time you do "yield" you are doing a context switch.
