[Twisted-Python] Must avatarId always be a string?

http://twistedmatrix.com/documents/current/core/howto/cred.html says that the avatarId parameter to IRealm.requestAvatar must be a string, not even a Unicode string. I'm using LDAP for authentication, and the checker retrieves the full LDAP entry for the user as a side-effect of authentication. Until I read that doc I was happily passing back the tuple of LDAP details as an avatarId, and it all works perfectly well. Is it really wrong, and if so, how will it fail? And what should I do instead to pass back the details? Peter.

[Twisted-Python] Stopping Reactor in UnitTest Callback

Hey there, I'm trying to start and stop a twisted server in a unittest: http://dpaste.org/qwaUt/ . Calling reactor.stop() in the callback causes a KeyboardInterrupt exception, and tearDown gets never executed, as it's probably waiting for the test to finish. After calling `trial d.py` you need to run a `telnet localhost 8007` manually to stimulate the connectionMade() method. I'm totally stuck and would appreciate any help. Thanks Fabian

Itamar Is there some sort of upper bound on when PB would be available for Python3.3? I am hoping to use it for a Python3 project. Any proposals to switch from PB to Foolscap in the upcoming releases of Twisted?

[Twisted-Python] Appropriate exception for AMP types receiving garbage?

Hi, I'm writing a custom AMP type. I noticed that when writing the unit test for garbage input, I didn't really know what exception to check for. I couldn't find any place where this was formally defined, so I checked for implementation behavior. Boolean explicitly raises TypeError. Integer raises ValueError, but that appears to only be an implementation detail of int. It could also be that it doesn't matter at all, but it does seem a little strange that Integer and Boolean raise different exceptions when fed garbage... -- cheers lvh
