Hi! I can't figure out how to use Perspective broker over stdio. Say I have file `child.py`: ---- from twisted.internet.endpoints import StandardIOEndpoint from twisted.internet import reactor from twisted.spread import pb class Foo(pb.Root): def remote_do_smth(self): pass def main(): endpoint = StandardIOEndpoint(reactor) f = pb.PBServerFactory(Foo()) endpoint.listen(f) reactor.run() if __name__ == '__main__': main() ---- Then say I have `main.py`: ---- import sys from twisted.spread import pb from twisted.internet import reactor def cb(o): d = o.callRemote("do_smth") return d def main(): exe = sys.executable args = [exe, '/path/to/child.py'] factory = pb.PBClientFactory() # now what? The below is a wrong way to create protocol. # But how do I do this? proto = factory.buildProtocol(('foo',)) reactor.spawnProcess(proto, exe, args) d = factory.getRootObject() d.addCallback(cb) d.addCallback(lambda _: reactor.stop()) reactor.run() if __name__ == '__main__': main() ---- How do I spawn `child.py` from a parent process, such that the parent can retrieve the root object and call methods on it? Hello, I'm trying to understand how can I use Perspective Broker to send some data getted from a TCP listener to another process... [Twisted-Python] maintenance release - a security issue and a regression

I think it might be time to have a maintenance release. Two issues in particular stand out which might be suitable for inclusion in a 12.3.1: <http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/6275> - This is a potential security issue which affects any twisted.web.template that uses the (recommended!) method of using a <t:attr> tag to render an attribute within a template. This might even be suitable for maintenance releases of older versions, if anyone is using them. <http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/6245> - This is a regression which affects anyone using twisted.names with 'unicode'-typed hostnames. This used to work, and, some of our own examples as well as some in-the-wild applications - mostly those using XMPP - actually relied upon it. IDNA hostnames never worked, but Python unicode-typed ASCII used to work and now it doesn't. Of course, in order to have a maintenance release with these bug fixes, several things need to happen. Someone needs to actually fix the issues. (I've written the code for #6275 but it is awaiting review; #6245 still needs to be fixed.) Someone needs to back-port those fixes to a release branch, based on the 12.3.0 tag, and file tickets for those backports. Someone needs to review the backports and get the committed to said branch. Someone needs to volunteer to be the release manager for 12.3.0. We apparently don't have any official process documentation for doing patch releases, but most of what's in <http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/wiki/ReleaseProcess> should apply. Any volunteers for parts of this process? -glyph

I have a couple questions regarding txjsonrpc ( https://github.com/oubiwann/txjsonrpc/) in connection with the recent addition of version 2.0 support. * How complete is the version 2.0 support? I had actually tried some years ago to add v2.0 support, but gave up due to some issues I no longer fully recall. Are there any known issues with the present implementation? * I noticed that all results are wrapped in an array (see netstring version at https://github.com/oubiwann/txjsonrpc/blob/master/txjsonrpc/netstring/jsonr…, but the web implementation has the same code.). This seems odd, as a jsonrpc result can be any valid json value, including a string, integer, array, or dict. The result is that on the client end, what I return from the function call as {"a": "b"} is received as [{"a": "b"}]. Is there some reason for this? Would a patch altering this behavior (perhaps optionally) be accepted? Thanks in advance for any help on these two questions. Matthew Williams

Hi. FWIW I had a project that used JSONRPC and decided to use v2 so I wrote https://github.com/Julian/txjsonrpc-tcp (Which I couldn't think up a less ambiguous name for at the time unfortunately) My requirements were kinda simple and Twisted had evolved a bit since when oubiwann wrote txjsonrpc so it's written a bit hastily from scratch. The project was ultimately abandoned for now, so it's kind of in an unpolished state to say the least, but last I recall it does work, certainly if you just want to use it as a springboard. Julian
