Hepp, ramblings coming up. while working on twisted.ftp I had to add a system to virtualize the dirs, so I began to outline a vfs of some kind. it does not deal with direct interaction with files, but rather lists them and so on. There's plenty of design issues left, but since I'm not that self-confidient on how to work this thing out, I felt like letting you have a peek on the idea as it is now. Radix suggested it could be used to provide a user-space which is seperated from the OS. It's a short test, and it uses authenticator. To test it, you need to rewrite the paths heavily. you guys can handle that ;) The example-code is at the bottom. There's loads of comments up front, but many of those are not longer valid. The part which creates most problem is the 'userFileSystem' atm. See for yourself: http://www.twistedmatrix.com/users/phed/vfs.py Feedback, and give your opinions! [Twisted-Python] explorer.py

I'm working on a generic namespace browser. I've just committed a prototype to TwistedPython/twisted/explorer.py (after much fretting of glyph and I over what it should be named), and would like some suggestions. I'm going to be taking a look at Squeak's browser again to get some ideas, but I'm not a veteran squeak hacker, so I probably won't grok it as much as some other people *cough*dash*cough* ;-) Anyway, the gist of it is that I want a generic ObjectBrowser that can call methods of, get attributes of, and execute arbitrary code in arbitrary namespaces. Does anyone else think there should be a release? of course we're not ready for 0.9.0 (or what we wanted for 0.9.0), but there have been many changes and it's been a month since the last release. I've started writing some tutorial-like documentation on developing web apps for twisted.web (snibril inspired me to do this). Should this go into TwistedSite or TwistedPython/doc/? IMO it should be packaged with the rest of TPy so it should go into TwistedPython. Also, I'm using HTML because that's what all the rest of the docs are in. If anyone has a suggestion for another format feel free. Thanks. I was able to telnet in to port 8888, user Damien, password admin and start mucking around the mud. The web server works from lynx but not from IE, it doesn't seem to be accepting the session variable. I tried the 'twistd -f game.spl -t 4040' but it was rejected at the command line. Right now I'm trying to figure out how it connects the telnet session to the mud. It looks to be through telnetServer = plumbing.Spigot(reality._default, selector) Are there any more resources, other than the code and api doc to look for some simpler examples? My name is Kevin Smith, I'm new to the list. I've been playing around with TwistedMatrix and it looks pretty powerful. I was wondering if there is a way to telnet into inheritance? So far I've only figured out how to run it directly. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hepp, twisted.ftp is now in an nearly usable state. There are some problems with active ftp'ing (net.TCPClient does not exactly have the same interface as net.TCPServer), but this is really an minor issue. And for those who want to try it, use the bsd-ftp and remember to turn on binary transfers! The client seems to modify the files to conform to ascii :) ATM there is no auth'ing in twisted.ftp; and this is really the biggest issue with it. So, I wonder, how should it perform auth? Where can it find the homedir? And setting the access to the user?
