I was waiting for somebody else to speak up before embarrassing myself, but anyway, here goes. ;-)
We had similar problems at a previous job of mine, and successfully used a similar approach to solve them; therefore you have my blessing, for what it's worth.

Our criticisms of WS-* are specific and have to do with issues of process
and stability and technical quality and a demonstrated lack of interoper-
