A workaround for the problem is available on a branch for <https://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/6373>. The remaining work is fairly trivial, I just haven't gotten around to it due to lack of free time. If you're interested you should (a) test the fix and (b) perhaps submit a patch that addresses the remaining review tickets.
