      I don't know; is protocol a TCP protocol? Here is the example:

class Echo(protocol.Protocol):

    def dataReceived(self, data):
        self.transport.write(data)

class EchoFactory(protocol.ServerFactory):

    protocol = Echo

Doesn't that use TCP, rather than UDP?
