[Twisted-Python] Upgrade Questions

I'm in the process of upgrading the FreeBSD port of TwistedCore and I have a couple of questions: - The source distribution used to be hosted both on the twistedmatrix.com and tmrc.mit.edu sites. It only seems to be on the latter now. Is this true or is there another site I can add to the list of master sites since it's always nice to allow the port system to try other sites if one is down? - There seems to be a problem while performing the install_lib phase of the installation during byte compiling. I get the following: byte-compiling /var/tmp/port-name/lib/python2.4/site-packages/twisted/test/stdio_test_halfclose.py to stdio_test_halfclose.pyc File "/var/tmp/port-name/lib/python2.4/site-packages/twisted/test/stdio_test_halfclose.py", line 20 ??? ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax There actually appears to be a "???" on this line. Regards, Neal Nelson.

I think this is fixed in trunk. Channeling James, who is off on his honeymoon: we should have release candidates.

I suppose what I need to know is: will there be a fixed release or should I just go and submit my port changes and live with the error so that people using FreeBSD can use it?

An RC would not have mattered; a highest-priority bug would have. This was known even as we were doing the release, but was deemed unimportant. -- Christopher Armstrong International Man of Twistery http://radix.twistedmatrix.com/ http://twistedmatrix.com/ http://canonical.com/

An RC would have given the packager an opportunity to complain about this and increase the priority of the bug to highest. I agree with james-via-itamar.

Let me say this, then: I don't plan on doing a 2.4.1 for this issue; Neal, you should ignore this harmless error. -- Christopher Armstrong International Man of Twistery http://radix.twistedmatrix.com/ http://twistedmatrix.com/ http://canonical.com/

OK. Perhaps all an RC would have done in this case would have allowed this *particular* exchange to take place pre-release :). Still, we should have 'em.

I would like to interject about a potential issue here, that I mentioned in ticket #1740. This typo prevents debian systems from byte-compiling the site packages directory during APT's installation process. This in turn prevents python-related packages from being installed sucessfully until the typo is removed. Personally, I run into this issue constantly, and I know that if I had encountered it when I wasn't as familiar with debian, I could have spent a lot of time trying to figure it out. just my two cents... -phil
