Hello all, The Twisted issue tracker needs someone to pay attention to it for spam content and clean up that content. I've been taking care of this for a while now but I'm going to step back from this position soon. These days spam is primarily submitted as new tickets. When a spam ticket is filed, it needs to be deleted. There's a form in the trac web interface for deleting tickets. Access needs to be specially granted, so you need a trac account to volunteer for this role. Trac is configured with some automatic spam filtering software. It catches some, but obviously not all, spam submissions. The trac rss feed can be used to monitor new content for spam. Total time commitment for this job is pretty minimal (perhaps a few minutes a week) but timely action on spam is preferred. It's probably also possible for this responsibility to shared between multiple people (divided up however those people find works). I'll continue covering this role for another week but after that I'll stop - so please volunteer before then! Thanks, Jean-Paul

Hi exarkun, I'm happy to do this in my timezones (approx 02:00GMT to 16:00GMT), and I'm usually around. I'd also like to be able to reset passwords on trac -- there's been a few instances where people aren't able to reset their password and people with the power haven't been around. - hawkie

Hello Mr. exarkun! I would love to help out with this. I am from India. I have been making some beginner bitesized contributions to Twisted (you have reviewed and merged some of them) and I am looking forward to contribute in any way that I possibly can. Please let me know what you think! Also, I'll be coming to PyCon in Montreal this year and I hope to see you and learn from you there! Hi, Without a Trac account you can not create a new ticket or update wiki page. I just tried to create a new account named 'robot-spammer' and it looks like it would be extremely easy to automate the process. Observing notifications on IRC I saw that many spam comments were posted by dedicated spam accounts. Is there any effort in improving the registration process to prevent spam accounts being created in the first place? Email confirmation or reCAPTCHA or linking to external providers like GitHub? Rather than hunting spam comments I prefer to work on preventing those comments. Cheers, Adi

I don't know how trac password reset works. Presumably the ideal solution would be to fix trac's built-in self-service password reset feature? As far as I know noone has managed to understand why (or even under what conditions) it is broken, though. If you'd like to deal with this manually until that happens, I suggest adding an entry to the ProjectJobs wiki page describing the requirements and volunteering yourself for the job for some period of time. If you can describe the trac permissions required I'm sure someone can grant them to you. Jean-Paul

Thanks for volunteering, Hawkowl, Eeshan Garg, and Pantelis Theodosiou. I've updated the description of this position on the ProjectJobs wiki page: https://twistedmatrix.com/trac/wiki/ProjectJobs#TicketSpam Please have a look and (if it still sounds good), add your trac username to the "Assigned to" field. Since there are several of you and you each have different availability times, it might also make sense to record that information as well (so we can see what kind of coverage we have and know what we're losing when you've had enough). I'll set up the necessary trac permissions in a few days. Let me know if you have any questions about the job or the job description. Thanks! Jean-Paul

I've granted these permissions to Hawkowl and Eeshan now (I didn't see Pantelis' trac username on the ProjectJobs page). https://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/7837 would be a good ticket to start with. Let me know if you have any questions - otherwise, I'm officially hands- off now. Thanks, Jean-Paul
