[Twisted-Python] Help us release Twisted 1.0
Hi all, We're trying to get 1.0 out the door. How can you help? 1. Write docs, tests, examples. Help get rid of remaining deprecation warnings in tests. 2. Have you submitted a patch for twisted.internet that hasn't made it in? Email it to me directly. And pester Glyph and Allen about finishing up the bug tracking system. 3. Help with the public relations - have you used Twisted in your company? If so we'd love to get quotes from you about what you did and how great it is. You know who you are :) Thanks!
At Masters of Branding we use Twisted as the networking core for all of our client and server RFID software. It was by far the easiest framework to develop with, debug under, and extend for our purposes to support protocols such as SOAP, HTTP, and Macromedia Flash-compatible XML Sockets. The API and event model are both very well thought out and has accommodated all of our networking needs from database-heavy server software on Linux to (py)OpenGL visualization applications on win32. The ease and power of Python and Twisted really showed through when we took one of our applications developed in and for Linux and ported it to run as a Windows NT service in less than day. New users to the framework will not only be impressed by the power of the software, but also that the developer/user community responsible for it are incredibly helpful and often provide much better support in minutes or hours than you'll see from commercial shops given days or weeks. Thanks a lot, Bob! It's great to hear that you're enjoying Twisted. "Having worked with Twisted for a while, I have come to appreciate the clean API and the distinction between transport layer and application protocol. Being able to switch between SSL and plain TCP by changing a single line is very useful. The huge protocol library in Twisted means I can integrate pretty much anything in my applications in a platform-independent way." Martin Sjögren

"My team is developing a modular application to integrate CAD/CAE/CAM tools and data and to enable collaboration among distributed teams of engineers working on NASA projects. We have selected Twisted as our framework because of its pluggable, asynchronous protocols, support for multiple interfaces and protocols per service, integration with PostgreSQL, and just generally excellent layered architecture." Thanks for the endorsement, Steve :-). By the way, it would be lots better if those of you sending endorsements could actually have a URL on an externally viewable site so that tm.com could point to some external points of reference for why using Twisted is good. (If not, just having these sorts of mailing list posts is still really cool. Keep 'em coming ^_^) -- | <`'> | Glyph Lefkowitz: Travelling Sorcerer | | < _/ > | Lead Developer, the Twisted project | | < ___/ > | http://www.twistedmatrix.com |

www.mastersofbranding.com for us, but the site won't be of a whole lot of interest to someone who would actually be using twisted. -bob

As soon as we have an actual release of our stuff that uses Twisted, I'll send you the URL ... with luck, that should be within a month or so. BTW, it would be very cool to have a "Twisted Inside" (or something like that! ;^) logo like Python and wxPython, etc., have. The mini version of the Twisted snake logo would be the perfect graphic for that, methinks ... we would be proud to display it (as we do the Python and wxPython logos) ... it would give us a certain air of l33tness ... :^) -- Steve.

URL:http://www.urbanape.com/twistedButton.png I only spent 5 minutes on it. Just to sort of kickstart someone with far more talent. :) Zac

The first image that came to my mind was a cartoon snake having its neck wrung, tounge hanging out etc... sorta like the snake in the snake comic in various Australian Papers. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ABO: finger abo@minkirri.apana.org.au for more info, including pgp key ----------------------------------------------------------------------
