[Twisted-Python] Fwd: Porting Twisted to another language...

(please Cc: jeff@dark-light.com in replies, as I don't think he's subscribed to the list) ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: jeff@dark-light.com <jeff@dark-light.com> Date: Sat, 13 Nov 2004 10:52:32 -0800 Subject: Porting Twisted to another language... To: twisted-python-owner@twistedmatrix.com I don't know if I'm sending this to the right place, but I hope that if I didn't, you may be able to forward it along to it's proper destination. I am a programmer that uses the Ruby programming language as my preferred base. Unfortunately, there really isn't any kind of library of objects similar to Twisted available for Ruby. Due to the similarities between Ruby & Python, I don't believe that porting the entire collective over to Ruby would be an extreme challenge. Since Twisted is yours, I wouldn't think of embarking on such a project without your approval. So, that's why I'm writing this. Anyways, any communication is welcome. I only get to check this email a few times a day so please don't be cross if I take a bit to get back to any response. My job doesn't allow me to deal with my external mail accounts & such during my time there. So, if you have any comments or questions, or if I can provide any additional information and/or assistance, please let me know. I'm always glad to be of assistance. Thank you in advance for your attention. I look forward to your response. -- Twisted | Christopher Armstrong: International Man of Twistery Radix | Release Manager, Twisted Project ---------+ http://radix.twistedmatrix.com

Do you mean Perspective Broker, or the networking base? In either case there may very well be existing packages that do similar things (http://mues.faeriemud.org/ sounds similar, for example). If not, wouldn't it just be easier to use the existing Twisted codebase written in Python, seeing as it's so close to Ruby? I get the impression that for Ruby programmers using Python wouldn't be an extreme hardship.
