We should remove this requirement.

I think we should change the API to only be left corner and right corner, even if it means providing a wrapper around the existing object constructor.

As I'm writing up the objects documentation, I realize that we have some weirdness with our "region" object in that we require it to have a specified center, even though the only things which are really needed to specify a 3D box are the left corner and right corner. I know in the past I've been perplexed by this additional center point requirement, and it might confuse others. Since 3.0 is the time to break API, how do people feel about changing the constructor for the region object to just be: region(left corner, right corner) instead of the current constructor: region(center, left corner, right corner) ? I realize that this is right before the release, but it seems like if we're going to change it, now is the time to do it. In fact, I was looking at ways to overload the region class with a wrapper so that we could just automatically accept 2 arguments and calculate the average of the left and right corners to pass to the 3-argument constructor. But I couldn't seem to find a way to make this work. +/-1 on changing the region constructor? Proposed 3.0 release strategy: July 30

Hi all, I'd like to propose we release yt 3.0 on Wednesday. This includes these steps: * Branch existing "yt" as "yt-2.x" * Merge into yt from yt-3.0 * Merge that into stable * Tag a release to PyPI * Switch docs on main page to point to the new 3.0 docs * Email out (Latest notes and destinations here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/12oiEFhgeCrKMWMlJbO_cmTRXGd3DmMNh839YGIj… please add additional things or suggest edits if you want) And then I think we might be all set. In addition, everyone -- particularly Nathan, Cameron and Hilary -- has been working really hard. But, we've got just about everything done. So I'd *also* like to propose that people take a breather. bulk velocity cookbook recipe correct ?

I'm looking over the cookbook recipes and stumbled across this one: http://yt-project.org/docs/dev-3.0/cookbook/calculating_information.html#ra… in the plot, I cannot distinguish between the two lines -- should there have been a difference? clickable gallery?

One thing I was wondering is whether we should have a gallery of thumbnails of the output from the various scripts in the docs that users can click on to see the recipe. In my experience, for matplotlib, this is the most useful part of the documentation -- I go to the gallery ( http://matplotlib.org/gallery.html) find something that looks like it does what I am trying to do, and then click on it to find out how to do that. This works well when you don't necessarily know the name of the type of plot you are looking to make. Just a thought. Projection Styles

Hi Cameron (and all), In the hangout a couple of days ago I volunteered to write a short section detailing the different projection styles. The text for that, to be incorporated into Cameron's docs on objects, is here: https://gist.github.com/978ea6e08a62e40fdb85 Cameron, please edit this as you wish. I also think we should introduce parity between the "style" keywords for projections and ProjectionPlots--right now "projection" has a keyword "style" and ProjectionPlot has a keyword "proj_style". They should be the same, whichever does not matter. Best, John
