Unfortunately it did not fix it, and intermittently I get frames of pure black.  Rerunning the scripts gets rid of the black frames but it did not change the behavior of the rotation.

Is something wrong with my YT, should I remove and reinstall?

Hi Geoffrey,

Can you try adding: steady_north=True in your camera call?

cam = pf.h.camera(c, L, W, (Nvec,Nvec), tf, north_vector=north_vector, steady_north=True, fields=field)

I'm not sure if this is related to the latest changes in volume rendering, I just updated my YT to see if the strange behavior of transfer function was fixed, but my old script which rotates the cube using cam.rotation now rotates the cube in strange ways, like the north vector is being redefined half way through the rotation.

Here's the script I used, and I just updated to the latest YT
