Take a look at Matt's pull request [1].
I think this is mostly for experimentation and hedging against the future,
but the main short-term use case is to be able to call yt from inside
blender [2], which is written in python 3.

Missed the YT gathering, but is this the plan to have YT3.0 work with python 3.0 going forward?
