Fwd: [astropy-dev] Astropy Community Code of Conduct
Hi everyone,
I think this is something we should consider adopting as well in yt.

Hi Britton,
I think this is a *spectacular* idea. We should break the format of
the YTEP and just put this in one, or a link to it.
Frankly, a code of conduct is long overdue, and I am happy to see
Astropy leading this initiative. Thank you for passing it along.

Date: Tue, Apr 28, 2015 at 10:11 AM Subject: [astropy-dev] Astropy Community Code of Conduct To: astropy-dev Hi everyone,
During the "Python in Astronomy" workshop in Leiden last week, a number of participants decided to get together to write a code of conduct for the Astropy project. We now have a final draft ready, and would like to solicit feedback on this version, which you can find here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yLObQMqP66x6MNuHXFpW_4dLPBtNp--9BHxfG8Yd...
Please let us know by the end of this week if you have any comments! You can make use of the commenting functionality in Google Docs, but please don't use the 'suggested edits' functionality since that will make it harder to read for others.
We plan to extend this code of conduct beyond simply the Astropy community, to e.g. the new Python users in Astronomy Facebook group [1], and future Python in Astronomy meetings, but having it as the Astropy community code of conduct for now would be a good place to start.
Thanks! Tom

I'll second Matt's endorsement - the linked-to code of conduct promotes
respectful discourse, inclusiveness toward both newcomers and dissenting
opinions, and the thoughtful consideration of criticism (which hopefully
will be given in a constructive and positive way). As somebody who is not
one of the core yt developers, but certainly an enthusiastic user, it seems
to me that the yt community already typically lives up to these ideals -
however, making it an explicit part of our values can't hurt!

potentially have any issues that it addresses.

Agreed +1 to a CoC.
Would anyone like to volunteer to write it up as a YTEP and include it on
the website?

Agreed +1

Agreed +1 to a CoC.
Would anyone like to volunteer to write it up as a YTEP and include it on the website?

I think that adoption of this kind of idea is important in groups like yt, where its adoption is easy. It paves the way for adoption in groups where these ideals will be harder to implement, but equally important.

I think this is a *spectacular* idea. We should break the format of the YTEP and just put this in one, or a link to it.
Frankly, a code of conduct is long overdue, and I am happy to see Astropy leading this initiative. Thank you for passing it along.

What if we (I nominate Britton) added a note about it to YTEP-1776,
and checked it into the docs? Then people would see it whenever they
visited the documentation page, which I think I like.
