Hi Kenza, I am ccing the blue waters help folks to let them know about this thread.
You can make a specific request for upgrade to the software by sending mail to
help+bw@ncsa.illinois.edu. I know the guys that handle the visualization software and they are pretty good about responding to upgrade requests.

Yes, yt modules exist but are limited to yt/2.3, yt/2.4, and yt/2.5. ART needs yt-3.x to read in data. Getting some updated yt versions as modules on BW would be great.
I will try using anaconda to set up yt locally.
Thanks all,

YT is installed and supported on Blue Waters. See https://bluewaters.ncsa.illinois.edu/yt for instructions on how to use it. I left NCSA about 9 months ago and don’t know what version they are running. You can always send mail to help to get assistance. They have several visualization folks there that can help you out.

Hi Kenza,
I don’t run on Blue Waters, but I’m not sure if you’ve tried setting up yt using Anaconda Python instead:
It doesn’t require compilation and should work easily.

I imagine that with so many of us using Blue Waters (and many people now at NCSA), we could make a push to get yt installed globally on BW, and updated semi-regularly.

could you show us your yt_install.log? Additionally output of:
...yt-x86_64/bin/python2.7 -c 'import hashlib ; print(dir(hashlib));
print(hashlib.__file__)'
Cheers,
