I'm running a fresh version of yt that I installed via the install script just this month. That should have been ok? I can do a fresh install though and check.
What is the hash? Run "yt instinfo -u" to upgrade. You shouldn't need to install fresh.
Looks like you are in IPython. sqrt is not in any name space, but sometimes IPython can import it, for instance in pylab-mode. Just use na.sqrt to make sure.
