According to Corentin there is an issue with your Ramses data that is making it so yt cannot parse it. Is it possible that you or someone else modified your old yt installation to support your modified RAMSES output? Corentin, if you’re following, what exactly about these data make them invalid? It seems that in practice people are working with data like this, is there anything we can do to make yt more lenient when it tries to load data like this or would that be difficult? I was able to revert to 3.4.0 from source and And since I was using it with python 3.6 earlier, I force downgraded python 3.7 to 3.6 but I’m still ending up with the same assertion error. How else can I fix the issue?

Thanks guys,
Following the instructions as @Nathan suggested, I could get the latest version 3.6. But, how is that I get 3.4.0? like Corentin mentioned, to the earlier commit. I’m really sorry but I’m inexperienced with this and it’s super critical that I revert to the the older version. Thanks again!

Hi Vadlamani,
Installing from source doesn't require root privilege. You could do pip install within your conda environment. Or use pip install --user. Have a look of the link from Nathan.
Best, Bili

I work on a supercomputer and don’t have the admin previleges to install yt from source. So, I’ve been using conda. Any other way I could install yt without needing to be the root? Thanks
