You could also use a weight field when you do your projection. A weighted
projection is a weighted average while an unweighted projection is a line
integral and so they have different dimensions.

Is this on a projection plot? The reason you can’t change between those particular units is because they have different dimensions. You can, however, change g/cm^2 to solar masses / pc^2.
