Return type of 'obtain_position_vector' and 'gravitational_binding_energy'
Hello, I'm editing code which contains the functions 'obtain_position_vector' and 'gravitational_binding_energy' within the utilities.lib.misc_utilities module and looking through their documentation. Although mostly self-explanatory I couldn't find any further information on this module on the yt website other than a list of it's comprising functions. Could anyone elaborate on the exact format of the data these functions return? Many thanks, Sam Patrick
Hi Sam,
The obtain_position_vector will provide one of two results. If it is
supplied a 1D field (i.e., from a flattened data container) it will
return an array of shape [3,N] where N is the number of points in the
input position. If it is supplied 3D fields, which almost always come
from either access a grid or gridded field directly, or when a derived
field has a ValidateSpatial validator, it will return a field of shape
[3, I, J, K] where I,J,K are the dimensions of the grid.
I believe that the gravitational_binding_energy will always receive
and return 1D arrays.
