Mark, Thanks for the quick response. From what I can see in Defaults.py in my installation of Mailman, one could 'break' Mailman the same way Kavi's ezmlm installation is broken by merely setting USE_ENVELOPE_SENDER=yes. (excerpt from Defaults.py) # When allowing only members to post to a mailing list, how is the sender of # the message determined? If this variable is set to Yes, then first the # message's envelope sender is used, with a fallback to the sender if there is # no envelope sender. Set this variable to No to always use the sender. # # The envelope sender is set by the SMTP delivery and is thus less easily # spoofed than the sender, which is typically just taken from the From: header # and thus easily spoofed by the end-user. However, sometimes the envelope # sender isn't set correctly and this will manifest itself by postings being # held for approval even if they appear to come from a list member. Thanks. So, considering the claims made about ezmlm for qmail, does that have anything to do with ezmlm, or is it qmail that's making mlm so fast? Where do I find server space for Mailman?

Dear Sir / Madam, Could you advice me where I can find web-host / server which can host a mailinglist that I own? Contrary to my expectation, I am having much dificulty finding such a facility here in Denmark. I don't know if I am correct, that Mailman can run simultanously with the listserv software called ezmlm? The list I am the list-owner for is currently running on ezmlm, and has around 500 subscribers. My current server-provider will shut down the list in two weeks time, so I quite urgently need to find an alternative, which is not too costly. THe list is focussed on anthropology, and subscribers mainly belong to the academic environment in Denmark. Lingua Franca of the lsit is mainly Danish. I have for some time planned to make the list simultanously accessible via ezmlm (email) and Mailman (WWW) and this is why I specifically contact you as Mailman specialists. I have a tool I cooked up in PERL to convert a Maildir-like format (some proprietary webmail format akin to maildir) to mailbox; there are probably other tools out there but if you're stuck I'd be happy to send it on to you, you would be able to alter it easily if you needed to cover anything unusual about date formats and so on. -- Simon White. ezmlm to mailman

Just in the process of moving some lists across to mailman from ezmlm , and can't seem to find an easy way of doing it. I think I've found something that'll bring them in from a .mbox file, but these are currently in a Maildir/ format. Anyone got an easy way to convert them across ? Thanks !!

ezmlm to mailman

Hi, I'm thinking about how to convert my ezmlm lists to mailman lists. First, how to convert the archives : i made a mbox file with all the messages of the list, then launched "./bin/arch testliste". It doesn't work : instead, I see this message (in french): "Pickle de l'état des archives vers /usr/local/mailman/archives/private/testliste/pipermail.pck" Any idea ? Regards, -- Christophe Baegert
