It is the lock.lock() call in Scrubber that trys to create /home/mailman/archives/private/membership/attachments/20060301/cf7df1b6/attachments.lock.server.com.23421.174. However, well before this, Scrubber has called its makedirs() function to create as necessary all the directories in /home/mailman/archives/private/membership/attachments/20060301/cf7df1b6/, and this apparently succeeded yet the directories 20060301/ and 20060301/cf7df1b6/ (and even the attachments/ directory initially) don't exist. attachments in general

the discussion of HTML as an attachment has launched an interesting discussion. most people who run public lists have come out strongly against attachments and i see their point. in that context attachments may not be appropriate and are definitely an annoyance. i am using mailing lists for internal project discussions. sending attachments (word docs, spreadsheets, images, etc) is an important part of our communications. the ability of the list manager to intelligently archive messages with attachments is crucial. currently we're archiving both to pipermail and to a newsgroup. the former munges attachments while the latter handles them nicely. if the html archiver handled attachments then we would not use the internal newsgroup at all. i remember reading at one time that having the html archiver handle attachments was on the to-do list. i just wanted to add a contrary voice to say some of us would use such a feature for our private, internal mailing lists. thanks, brad

Names of attachments are broken in archive

Hi. When I send a message with an attachment to my mailing list, the name of the attachment is broken in the archive. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/mixed attachment ---------------------- multipart/mixed attachment Ein Dateianhang mit Binärdaten wurde geschreddert... Dateiname : Drei =?ISO-8859-1?Q?W=FCnsche=2Epps?= Dateityp : application/octet-stream Dateigröße : 517728 bytes Beschreibung: nicht verfügbar URL : http://lists.email-server.info/mailman/private/fun/attachments/20021121/a3d… ---------------------- multipart/mixed attachment-- In this mail, I've attached a PowerPoint file to the mail. However, Mailman/pipermail stores the file as foo.obj. This also happens with JPEGs which are stored as bar.jpe. Because of the messed up name, I cannot just click on the link to see the attachment. At least Galeon displays the binary contents as text, instead of invoking the proper display routine. Using Mailman 2.1b5. What to do? Attachment woes

Hi, I set up a few lists recently. I didn't want to bog down my server with accumulated messages and attachments, so I disabled archiving. People are sending attachments, but the files are not coming across in the email, they are apparently getting stored on my server with a link. A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Name: not available Type: application/msword Size: 27136 bytes Desc: not available Url : http://emresident.net/mailman/private/all_emresident.net/attachments/2004041 9/4a8f0728/attachment.dot I tried to find the attachments using ssh, and could not find them. My mailman install is apparently in /var/mailman Is there some reason why it is not just forwarding the attachments directly to the sender? Can this option be set? Where are these attachments being stored, and can I manually delete them? Thanks dan

Attachments of types other than plain text are scrubbed from the plain format digest and stored in the archive and replaced by URLs to the scrubbed attachments in the plain digest. Removal of attachments causes problems

I have a list where the attachments are removed and stored on the mailman server itself. This works like a charm, but SOME image attachments of the type: image/pjpeg are stored as "attachment.bin" instead of "attachment.jpg" Why? Neither application/vnd.ms-outlook nor application/msoutlook are registered mime types at all. See <http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/index.html>. The type you want for a message attachment is message/rfc822. In general, if you are trying to find the mime type to allow for a particular message attachment, look at the raw source of a message containing the attachment and find the Content-Type: header of the part containing the attachment. Note that even if you accept attached message/rfc822 parts, the sub-parts of that message are still subject to your content filtering rules. All I want to do is to set up Mailman so that it sends an attachment with the e-mail (that works) and then saves the attachment in the archived version of the e-mail (doesn't work - get message that the attachment was "scrubbed"). I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I have nothing set in "content filtering" assuming that would mean that nothing is filtered. If that is not how to make it so that I can save a copy of the attachment in the archive, what do I need to do?
