Can the bot itself report a failed test?

By the bot, do you mean "buildbot"? Buildbot doesn't understand the stdout of tests. It only looks at tests exit code to check if tests completed successfully, or "failed".
Recently, I began to teach buildbot how to detect warnings specific to Python. See warningPattern of the Test class: https://github.com/python/buildmaster-config/blob/master/master/custom/steps...
I don't know if we could do the same for errors.
Instead of trying to parse scrambled stdout+stderr line by line, maybe regrtest could regenerate a nice JSON or JUnit report which would be much easier to parse?
While it's a boring task to read tests stdout, we only get a few errors, so I'm ok to do this job :-)
