Hi everyone, and thanks for making our first ever Python Adelaide a success! There's a few quick things I want to share with you. First, a quick thank you to Matt Magin for making this happen and being our first speaker, Mark Foreman for his lightning talk at such short notice, Romana Challans for arranging the venue and also volunteering to speak, and Miriam Hochwald and Dylan Jay for their super useful advice. Second, we'd love to know how we went! If you've got any feedback or suggestions for us, good or bad, you can drop it in our Google Form feedback box—you can be anonymous if you like! PyCon AU 2017 - CFP Deadline 7th May

Greetings, PyCon AU 2017’s Call for Proposal deadline - Sunday 7th May - is fast approaching. We need your submissions now! There are a few key pieces of information to be aware of in preparing your submission. Child Care PyCon AU 2017 is absolutely delighted to be offering child care for the first time: https://2017.pycon-au.org/about/child-care/. Child care will be offered on the specialist track and main conference days (Friday 4 August, Saturday 5 August and Sunday 6 August). More details will be forthcoming. Tomorrow's Python Adelaide: now with lightning talks!

Hi everyone, Unfortunately, Romana is quite unwell and won't be able to present her talk on NLTK tomorrow; instead she'll be presenting it next month. As a result, we'll have Matt Magin presenting on *Django Channels*, followed by *lightning talks, plus an open discussion* on where Python Adelaide should go: what kinds of talks, other activities, etc. If you're not familiar with lightning talks, here are the rules: - Talks run for up to *five minutes* - *Five minutes* is the maximum talk length - After *five minutes*, you have to stop talking That's it. Any topic you like; it doesn't even need to be directly Python-related. If you can't think of a topic there's a bunch of ideas on our website here: http://pythonadelai.de/pages/speaking.html See you tomorrow, Adam PS: If you're new to speaking, lightning talks are a really good way to get your feet wet! PPS: Remember, the PyCon Australia Call for Proposals is open now, and closes May 7th! If you're thinking of speaking at PyCon AU, a short lightning talk is a great way to test out a topic, and a full-length talk at a future Python Adelaide meetup is a great way to test your material before you take it to the big smoke in Melbourne!

Python Adelaide is happening! Next week, Wed 26 April, 6:30pm, CBD

Hi everyone, A few weeks ago, my colleague Matt and I sent a few emails around to this and a few other lists, gathering interest in a Python User Group in Adelade. As a result, it's now happening! When and Where: The 4th Wednesday of every month, starting the 26th of April, opening at 6.30pm with talks starting at 7pm. We'll be meeting in the CBD, at the Victoria Square campus of Flinders University, located on the corner of Victoria Square and Flinders Street. Format: We're starting with presentations—to get the ball rolling, this month Matt Magin will speak on Django Channels, and Romana Challans on NLTK. If people are interested we could organise some pizzas, and afterwards there's the opportunity to move to a nearby bar for some social drinks if desired. We've heard a fair bit of interest in both participating in and organising other activities as well, which we hope to do once we're up and running. Presenters: If you have something you'd like to share with us next month, please let us know! It could be a 5-minute lightning talk, a full 25-minute presentation or something in between, on any topic of interest to people that use Python.
