Hi all, I'm going to try to push out a yt-1.7 release this week before Friday. I've added docstrings (in the form of doc/docstring_example) to the plot collection, fixed resolution buffers, and about 1/2 of the volume rendering stuff. I will be documenting the new volume rendering interface and adding more docstrings, and then I'm calling 1.7 good. John, can you put DualEPS into the main yt repo? If you have time -- and you probably don't :) -- would you mind adding docstrings for it? Stephen, what is the status of your modifications to the docs/code? Is there anything else that needs to happen? I would like it if we could convert all of the docstrings to the new format, but that will take a significant chunk of time and it shouldn't be required for 1.7. Does anyone else have anything they think should go in? -Matt

I am pretty sure everything I wanted to do to the code has been done. There may be minor content changes to the docs I still haven't done, but nothing show-stopping. I'll take a look at what it would take to fix the docstrings for my stuff, but it's likely not going to happen before Friday, as you've guessed. _______________________________________________________ sskory@physics.ucsd.edu o__ Stephen Skory http://physics.ucsd.edu/~sskory/ _.>/ _Graduate Student ________________________________(_)_\(_)_______________
Hi Stephen, John, and now Britton and Jeff:
John -- thanks for moving it over into the main repo. :) Very nice,
and I'll add it to the changelog, even if we can't get to the
docstrings just yet.
Stephen -- I've sent you a patch off-list that should contain all the
changes I believe you are responsible for in the hg repo. Can you
please go ahead and apply it to SVN and make sure that everything has
been added/removed correctly?
Britton -- I don't know how I missed this, but your light_ray. Do you
want to document it with the docstrings and then put it into the SVN
trunk for a 1.7?
Jeff -- should we update the install script for 1.4.1 and Matplotlib 0.99.3?
I've now backported all of my changes, and I'll just be documenting
them. I also re-cythonized the amr_utils module, which will require a
recompile, but "yt instinfo -u" should handle that for people.

Hi Guys,
Jeff -- should we update the install script for 1.4.1 and Matplotlib 0.99.3? Definitely. As a update to you all, it turns out the weird MemoryError bug has been corrected in numpy 1.4.1; there was ticket filed about a year ago on that very issue.

Matt,
You missed the light ray tool because I only added it to the hg repo a
couple days ago. I would rather hold off for the next release to get the
documentation and all in order.

Britton: Okay, sounds good. It'll stay in hg for now.
Jeff: I've committed a new version of the script to the SVN
repository. I am only updating the Linux installation, because
building for OSX-10.6 is substantially more hassle. Also, I have not
extensively tested 1.4.1, but it looks like we are not going to suffer
from any deprecations, as we haven't been receiving any deprecation
warnings to date from 1.3.0.
I can no longer maintain the OSX 10.5 script, unfortunately, because I
no longer have a 10.5 system to test on. If someone wants to take
that over, it'd be rad.
I'm going to continue re-building and toning up the documentation as
time permits and I think we should be able to release tomorrow. I'll
send the changelist out tonight, and people can either add to or
subtract from it.

I would potentially be willing to take over the OS 10.5 script, since that's
what I still have.

Hi Stephen,
I just saw you added a bunch of docstrings. Thanks a ton, it's very
helpful, and will make the entire software package more valuable and
easy to use!

John, can you put DualEPS into the main yt repo? If you have time -- and you probably don't :) -- would you mind adding docstrings for it?
Hi Matt, I'll add DualEPS into the main repo. I'll see if I can manage to add the docstrings tomorrow, but I can't promise anything :) John
Hi John,
I just saw your comprehensive docstring commit. Thanks a ton, it
really, really helps out. I'm going to investigating adding PyX to
the install script, because I really want people to start using
DualEPS. I know how much of a pain it is to make EPS plots as is, and
this solves a lot of those problems.

No problem! I hope this encourages more people to use it in the upcoming releases. I've always hated the degraded quality of the vector graphics if the whole EPS was a bitmap. John On 24 Jun 2010, at 16:12, Matthew Turk wrote:
