Does one already exist, maybe? There are is a flyer I made up a couple of years ago for the Australian Open Source Conference (but it has general content) and a template for printing Python-advocacy business cards at the following page: http://wiki.python.org/moin/Advocacy/UsergroupSupport The flyer is A4 though, not letter. The OpenOffice.org format is there for anyone to change. -Jeff From aahz at pythoncraft.com Mon Jun 8 20:25:17 2009 From: aahz at pythoncraft.com (Aahz) Date: Mon, 8 Jun 2009 11:25:17 -0700 Subject: [python-advocacy] OSCON flyer? I've reformatted it for letter size and updated it a bit: http://pythoncraft.com/OSCONflyer.odg Everyone, let me know if you have any text changes to suggest; if you want to bikeshed the formatting, you can send me a revised copy. ;-) -- Aahz (aahz at pythoncraft.com) <*> http://www.pythoncraft.com/ "If you don't know what your program is supposed to do, you'd better not start writing it." --Dijkstra From aahz at pythoncraft.com Mon Jun 8 20:42:43 2009 From: aahz at pythoncraft.com (Aahz) Date: Mon, 8 Jun 2009 11:42:43 -0700 Subject: [python-advocacy] OSCON banner Message-ID: <20090608184243.GA3967@panix.com> http://www.python.org/community/logos/ Should I use the plain Python logo or the "python powered" logo for the booth banner? -- Aahz (aahz at pythoncraft.com) <*> http://www.pythoncraft.com/ "If you don't know what your program is supposed to do, you'd better not start writing it." --Dijkstra From aahz at pythoncraft.com Thu Jun 18 19:35:04 2009 From: aahz at pythoncraft.com (Aahz) Date: Thu, 18 Jun 2009 10:35:04 -0700 Subject: [python-advocacy] Vector logo? SVG is a vector format (SVG == Scalable Vector Graphics). Inkscape can export EPS, but the exported file should be verified. .ai is a proprietary and finicky format. In either case, it would be best to: 1. Have somebody with a copy of Illustrator check the .eps or .ai file. 2. Supply a PNG proof with the vector file for visual verification. ("Please check the .eps/.ai file against the enclosed .png proof, and inform us of any differences.") -- David Goodger From aahz at pythoncraft.com Thu Jun 18 21:34:23 2009 From: aahz at pythoncraft.com (Aahz) Date: Thu, 18 Jun 2009 12:34:23 -0700 Subject: [python-advocacy] Vector logo? Gotcha, it was a bit confusing because the PNG is specified as the master file. > Inkscape can export EPS, but the exported file should be verified. .ai > is a proprietary and finicky format. Yes, Adobe Fireworks saves a PNG which also contains the vector info, in a hybrid format of some kind. So the "master" PNG works as a regular PNG if you don't have Fireworks. But nobody has fireworks, so the best thing would be to move that file down in the list. I'll take care of it. -- David Goodger From hwg434 at yahoo.com Sat Jun 20 01:51:33 2009 From: hwg434 at yahoo.com (hwg) Date: Fri, 19 Jun 2009 16:51:33 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [python-advocacy] Python book for beginners doing well In-Reply-To: <4335d2c40906181918l693fe47fo9fc9f72f1b2bd006@mail.gmail.com> References: <20090618173503.GA4419@panix.com> <4335d2c40906181107r6e329eedv8fa3bb253f43965e@mail.gmail.com> <20090618193423.GA24213@panix.com> <4335d2c40906181918l693fe47fo9fc9f72f1b2bd006@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <158389.86435.qm@web54206.mail.re2.yahoo.com> The book "Hello World! Computer Programming for Kids and Other Beginners", which uses Python as the teaching language, has been in the top 3 of publisher Manning Publications "Bestsellers - US Retail" list for the past few weeks. Last week it was their #1 book. It has also been doing well on Amazon, where it is #1 in the "Web for Kids" category. (They don't have a "programming for kids" category, so that's where they put it, even though it's not really about the web.) It has also had several good reviews, as well as the positive comments on Amazon. It's nice to see a Python book doing so well and promoting Python as the best teaching language around. hwg ________________________________ From: David Goodger To: Aahz Cc: advocacy at python.org Sent: Thursday, June 18, 2009 7:18:55 PM Subject: Re: [python-advocacy] Vector logo?
