Dear colleagues,

I am very happy to announce that the first paper written by the
Astropy Collaboration to describe the Astropy package has been
accepted for publication in A&A, and is available on the arXiv today:

  http://arxiv.org/abs/1307.6212

The Astropy project is a community effort to develop a single core
package for Astronomy in Python and foster interoperability between
Python astronomy packages (see http://www.astropy.org for more
details).

We would be very grateful if authors of papers/publications making use
of Astropy (whether directly or as a dependency to other packages)
could include the following acknowledgment:

"This research made use of Astropy, a community-developed core Python
package for Astronomy (Astropy Collaboration, 2013)."

where (Astropy Collaboration, 2013) is a citation to the Astropy paper
mentioned above. You can find the required BibTeX code via ADS at:

  http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2013arXiv1307.6212T

If you wish, you can also include a link to http://www.astropy.org (if
the journal allows this) in addition to the above text.

The most up-to-date recommendations for acknowledging the use of
Astropy can be found at the bottom of the http://www.astropy.org home
page.

Please help us by forwarding this to your local Python user groups or
any other relevant groups!

Thank you for your help,

Thomas Robitaille
on behalf of the Astropy Collaboration
