And unfortunately, after a mere 12 minutes of existence, the astropy wikipedia article has been nominated for deletion by a new page patroller:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Astropy

For better or for worse, the key to a page surviving its first few days on wikipedia is establishing notability. So the key to getting the page kept is adding references that establish notability.

The "official" guideline for notability:

An essay (i.e. less official, but still useful) regarding notability for software:

I think that pretty much the best way to achieve inclusion on wiki would be to establish that it's widely used in the astronomical community. The best way I can think of is if there exist course pages from universities about using the software for astronomical purposes. Those should be added as references. Without those, though or something like them, it's likely the article will be deleted.... basically, the sources have to be independent of the astropy project pages and major contributors. If you can find such sources, they can be added to the article using <ref>[http://www.university.edu/the/page.html]</ref>....

Is someone out there willing to take up the task of creating a wikipedia entry for astropy?

You really don't need to worry about editing as a main contributor; it is only the content (and importantly, supporting links and references) that matter. Further discussion of the entry could mainly be on the Talk Page https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Astropy&action=edit&redlink=1

"Don't be afraid to edit – anyone can edit almost every page, and we are encouraged to be bold<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Be_bold>! Find something that can be improved and make it betterfor example, spelling, grammar, rewriting for readability, adding content, or removing non-constructive edits. If you wish to add new facts, please try to provide references<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Introduction_to_referencing/1> so they may be verified<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Verifiability>, or suggest them on the article's discussion page<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Introduction_to_talk_pages>. Changes to controversial topics and Wikipedia's main pages should usually be discussed first.

Remember – you can't break Wikipedia; all edits can be reversed, fixed or improved later. Wikipedia is allowed to be imperfect<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Editing_policy>. So go ahead, edit an article and help make Wikipedia the best information source on the Internet!"
