Dear colleagues,
I am happy to announce the first public release of galpy, a python package
for galactic and MW dynamics. You are receiving this email because I
believe this may be of interest to you; if not, I apologize for the mass
mailing.
galpy supports orbit integration in a variety of potentials, evaluating and
sampling various disk distribution functions, and the calculation of
action-angle coordinates for all static potentials. The basic functionality
is written in pure python, but various parts of the code are accelerated
using C (orbit integration and action-angle calculations in particular);
see the installation instructions on how to get the full functionality.
galpy is available on pypi:
http://pypi.python.org/pypi/galpy/0.1
and github
http://github.com/jobovy/galpy
and can be installed from there or using pip. Documentation (including more
detailed installation instructions) can be found here:
http://galpy.readthedocs.org/en/latest/
Please report issues by reporting them on github (the preferred method)
http://github.com/jobovy/galpy/issues
or by emailing me (bovy at ias.edu). Please let me know if you are using the
code so I can keep you informed of any major updates.
Thanks,
Jo
