Hi all,

The Debian Astronomy Working Group aims to package and maintain
astronomy related software for the Debian/GNU operating system. We are
planning a (one-day) debian-astro sprint at the DebCamp in Heidelberg,
14 August 2015. Debian "sprints" are developer meetings to work on
specific parts and having fun doing so.

The main goal is to get together, to find out common topics and issues,
to discuss our future path, and to work on current problems. A quick
preliminary agenda is posted on

https://wiki.debian.org/Sprints/2015/Astro

* Status of Packaging
    what is there, what else do we need?
* Creation of a tasks package
* Package collections:
  - VO tools
  - Astropy affiliated packages
  - Software provided by Astromatic.net
  - ESO Scisoft
* Licensing issues
* How to attract new packagers? Packaging by upstream?
* Which coordination with other Distributions do we need? (Fedora etc.)
* Workshop for newcomers: create a first package together

Everyone interested is welcome to the Sprint event, and also to provide
ideas or comments to the agenda. If you intent to come, please add your
name to the wiki for coordination.

Please feel free to forward this to anyone who might be interested.
Discussion should take place in the Debian Astronomy Mailing list

https://lists.debian.org/debian-astro/

Best regards

Ole Streicher
