  We are proud to announce the release of LDTP 1.7.0. This release features
number of important breakthroughs in LDTP as well as in the field of Test
Automation. This release note covers a brief introduction on LDTP followed
by the list of new features and major bug fixes which makes this new version
of LDTP the best of the breed. Useful references have been included at the
end of this article for those who wish to hack / use LDTP.

About LDTP:

Linux Desktop Testing Project is aimed at producing high quality test
automation framework (C / Python) and cutting-edge tools that can be used to
test Linux Desktop and improve it. It uses the Accessibility libraries to
poke through the application's user interface. The framework also has tools
to record test-cases based on user events in the interface of the
application which is under testing. We strive to help in building a quality

That would be excellent Anirudh. We always need a lot of hands at the
actual venue.

There will be tons of things to do from manning the registration desk
to being session chairs to generally helping the delegates etc.
You have no idea how much I appreciate your gesture. :)

BTW, another thing that occurs to me is whether you know of any places
there where delegates from outside B'lore can stay? Cheap lodges,
people living in rented houses than can help out etc.? That would be
useful as well.

I look forward to seeing you there.

There are lots of small and cheap hotels in yesvantpur, why u dont look at
that and update in wiki. There are some hotels in Sampige Road, Malleshwarm.
Look 10 to 18th cross. Thats very near to Iisc. Look some in Ramhaiha Nagar
too.

We're in a reasonably healthy state right now as far as money is
concerned. I think we can cover the costs. However, our margin of
safety is limited and there will *always* be unexpected costs at the
end. I will send out another mail later today detailing our financial
condition.

Ramdas suggested that we open up an 'associate sponsor' scheme whereby
companies/individuals who want to be part of the event with smaller
amounts can become associate sponsors. Lower amounts like 10k are
fine. Anand Pillai and Ramdas have already pitched in.

Of course, associate sponsors would receive less benefits than the
main guys. A logo on our site and a link their company page. No stalls
and such which the premium sponsors would get.

Please leverage your contacts and try to get people to become atleast
associate sponsors for the conference. It would go a long way in
helping the thing take off and fly.

We'll rework the brochure for associate sponsors but please start
conversations with potential parties.

Have you seen this:

There is a GIF file in this webpage that shows how the workings of
QuickSort.
We wish to do this for a process that goes on in runtime. Basically its a
status display thing.
Any thoughts would help.

If I use Ajax here...can the updates happen as smooth as in the example
above.

Vishal,
If I understand right, you want to dynamically create an animation that
shows what's going on with your process at runtime.

The Python Imaging Library will allow you to create animated gifs - like the
Quicksort one...

Two comments.
0. I haven't touched PIL lately but the last time I checked, it's
support for animated GIFs was somewhere between non-existent and
broken.
1. If you use a PIL approach, you have to run your whole process, keep
track of things and then generate an animated GIF which you'll put out
onto the webserver. This is not particularly useful since the work is
already done. It would be better to have Ajax based setup  which will
refresh regularly or some server side push mechanism.

Yeah I was thinking the same. Since I know that the server side process will
take a certain time to complete, a javascript function to 'POST' a request
for data after that much time should be good enough.
I was wondering if there are any inherent time lags when using
xmlhttprequest, since its asynchronous, that you know of or any caveats one
should keep in mind.
By the way...the server and the client are sitting very very close to each
other :))

asynchronous call get held up...and not return to the client ??

what can the client implementation do to make this as smooth as possible.
what can the python script implementation behind the server do to make this
less of a possibility.

Possible. It could take longer than normal.

Gmail loading up times out after a while saying that your request is
taking longer than usual. Perhaps you could do something similar?

I don't think it is a good idea to seek employment by advertising
oneself in a discussion mailing list.  Many wont be able to help and
might stand clueless.

Posting of advertisement is okay [They are marked as COMMERCIAL] and
might prove to helpful to the seeker. 
So, Ashutosh, just search the archives and apply.
