[BangPypers] Open source python based image matching tools?

Hi all,

Is there any open source image matching tool or software written in python
or allow python to interact with it?

Since I asked a naive question, a little bit off topic. What is a good way
to start in this field( graphics and image matching). Any pointers to docs
or references will be of great help.
