I can give a talk about this one day, but the end goal is a smart
network, where your IDS, port knocking daemon, and sniffers cooperate
to manage your firewall rules. One day I'd like to BSD-license the
whole thing and let router vendors incorporate it, and get game
designers to send out packets that identify what port forwarding the
game needs.
