Due to the 'shelter at home' policy, the class will be held "live online" via Zoom. So anyone from anywhere can join this class. The first course is "Python for Data Analysis and Scientific Computing". The class will be held every Tuesday from 6:00 - 9:00 pm PST starting from March 2nd 2021 to May 4th 2021. The course will cover the most important aspects of Python's data analysis tools such as NumPy, SciPy and Matplotlib. The course will be very hands-on with in-class activity and homework. You will be provided Jupyter notebooks that will contain many examples. To register for the course, visit https://extension.berkeley.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=17545604#courseSectionDetails_65774385 and select section 019. The second course is "Introduction to Machine Learning Using Python". The class will be held every Thursday from 6:00 - 9:00 pm PST starting from March 4th 2021 to May 6th 2021. The course will cover most of the popular machine learning algorithms such as Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, SVM, Random Forest, SVD, K-means, KNN, Na?ve Bayes etc. The course will be very hands-on with in-class activity and homework. You will be provided Jupyter notebooks that will contain many examples. To register for the course, visit https://extension.berkeley.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=30544037#courseSectionDetails_65794189 and select section 013. UCSC Berkeley Extension is an accredited institution. Hence, many employers will reimburse the cost of the course. If you have any questions, please email her at sridevip at berkeley.edu. However, sometimes scikit-learn models can take a long time to train. There are quite a few approaches to solving this problem like: - Changing your optimization function (solver) - Using different hyperparameter optimization techniques (grid search, random search, early stopping, etc) - Parallelize or distribute your training with joblib and Ray Attendees will learn about each approach, the advantages and disadvantages of each, and how to speed up their scikit-learn workflow. *Speaker Bio* Michael Galarnyk works in Developer Relations at Anyscale , the company behind the Ray Project. In his spare time, he teaches Python based Machine Learning classes through Stanford Continuing Studies and LinkedIn Learning. You can find him on Twitter (https://twitter.com/GalarnykMichael), Medium ( https://medium.com/@GalarnykMichael), and GitHub ( https://github.com/mGalarnyk). *Code of Conduct* https://baypiggies.net/pages/code_of_conduct.html Interactions online have less nuance than in-person interactions. Please be Open, Considerate and Respectful. Also, please refrain from discussing topics unrelated to the Python community or the technical content of the meeting. *RSVP* We will conduct the meeting via Zoom webinar. With the miracle tools: Python, Pandas, and Jupyter notebooks, we go from zero to analyzing data in this 10-evening class. It is helpful, but not required, to know a programming language, and a little about statistics. https://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=6240437&SectionID=7298391 --- All courses are hands-on with short lectures, and lots of relevant exercises, and, we study the solutions after some lab time. Questions are always welcome. Please come, and send students!
